Richt Staff Timeline

Richt is all about loyalty and doing the right thing and not causing a stir publicly. I'm sure he's already got an agreement in place with the 3 or 4 guys from UGA that attended the senior party with him a few days ago and weren't recruiting with the other guys that Kirby Dumb retained.

He's probably narrowed his DC list too. I just hope to **** he doesn't waste the $1M+ hiring a bum like Grantham like he did at UGA a couple years ago or that loser OC Shyttenheimer like he did last year. This DC hire is going to be absolutely imperative if we're going to turn this program around.

From what I've read, Shottenheimer was forced on him by UGA's AD. Richt never wanted him.

Im having trouble buying the narrative that the AD was dictating so much football stuff to a successful long time HC. I've heard it a bunch on here, but I'm having trouble with accepting it. Doesn't really add up to me.

I've read on here that the AD basically pulled play calling duties from Richt several years ago despite Richt having about an 80%+ winning percentage at that point in his career.

That's because you are using your brain. Look Richt is a huge upgrade over what we have had the last three coaches but there are concerns here and this is one of them. I'm having a hard time believing this also,'especially being that I'm not a retarded homer and have tried seeking out other UGA fan's views of Richt. Many loved him but there is a good amount of them that don't have that much good to say about him. The people saying the AD forced this stuff upon him, seem like the type that will do mental gymnastics to make anything fit their narrative. Many did this with Golden, making excuses why he never won the MAC or beat anybody with a pulse.

Miami's days of underachieving as we have the last decade is over, but I'm still cautious to officially say we are back to being a contender. We will see but after Radio and the Gut, it's easy to be jaded here.

I live in Auburn and work in Georgia. About 75% of the Georgia fans I've talked to told me this about Shottenheimer as well. They said that Richt wanted to switch to more of a spread type offense and the AD shut him down.

Some of those fans liked Richt. Some hated him. So take that for what it's worth.

A coach of Richt's stature would likely have final say on staff and schemes. Unless Richt wanted a spread-OC beyond his budget I don't see an AD saying 'No'. Georgia was paying Schottenheimer just under $1M so I can't imagine money being an issue.

I am not debating what your heard but I'm suspicious.

I lived in Atlanta when Richt turned over play-calling to Bobo. At that time, Richt said Bobo had earned it, and UGA was having some issues on offense. The thought was that Richt would free himself to be a better coach by delegating the play calling. Not sure if he initiated that thought, or it was the AD.

As for the UGA OC hire he just made ... I thought it was terrible! Seemed like he was grabbing an NFL guy, just to have an NFL guy. The teams Schottenheimer coordinated were never very dynamic, IMO.

I have no clue how good Richt will be as a play-caller for Miami next season ...

Not sure if he will be as conservative as UGA has been in recent years, or if he will revert back to the guy he was at FSU???

But I'm hoping we get the modernized FSU version ...

I have all those same feelings about his offense here. Hope he goes back to what he was doing at FSU and not that **** I've been watching the last few years at UGA. It's been a pretty pedestrian approach to offense.

As for the playcalling at UGA, I remember when he handed the duties to Bobo. I just don't recall any claims that the AD was forcing that move until after he got fired.

Watching that offense was like watching paint dry . No imagination at all.

If they ran into anyone with close to their talent they were shut down

It was desultory. I hope he knows he could have done better and regrets going out the way he did and takes a balls to the wall approach.

Odd thing is that the offense the last several years at UGA looked absolutely nothing like the offense at FSU, which leads me to believe Booby Bowel was either dictating to him to run that wide open progressive offense, or he just lost his way at some point at UGA. It's a very interesting dichotomy in his career between what he was doing at FSU and what we've seen him transform into at UGA.

If I recall correctly his early offenses at Uga resembled fsu's. I remember David Greene being in shotgun a decent anount, Shockley too.

FWIW, I also question how much the AD would limit what his tenured, successful coach could run in terms of scheme. However, when UGA hired Smart, one of the tag lines was that Georgia would be recognized for its power running game. Implies that this was not what Richt primarily wanted to operate.
