"It took me a while to get staff together.." but he said he "didn't want to rush the hires for recruiting's sake" via Matt Porter's twitter

This is big IMO.. our past 2 HC's would have rushed staff hirings for recruiting. Shows me that Richt is confident that this staff can evaluate/develop all current and new players.

Yep. He said this soon after he was hired, too....

I think we'll do well with him running the offense and Diaz / Kuligowski with the defense....

I'm really interested to see what Kuligowski will do - he's right near the top of the mark for DL coaches out there....

Clearly he wanted his most experienced position coaches in the trenches. If you read his son's comment, Mark is the OC and quarterback coach. His son will do all the yeoman's stuff and most of the grunt work. Brown will do the game planning, a lot of the grunt work as well.

I remember hearing a coach say recently that the coaches we hear are "great recruiters" are called that because they can't coach. Give me good coaches, and winning/recruiting will be just fine. Richt put together a solid staff.

Having Richt as the OC is big. Really, really big. He's going to be out to prove something.

I believe that was from an interview from Jeremy Pruitt on his way out the door.

I'm totally appreciative of Coach Larry Scott for how well he held the team together; even creating some excitement around the team when they were at an all time low and it would have been easy for Richt to keep him on staff and we probably would have had a better recruiting staff with Scott than we did without him but I trust Richt's vision and I'm glad he put together HIS staff. I think it will pay off in the long haul. (And no, that's not just looking at things w/ Green & Orange glasses.)

Which makes me wonder. Coley had the 'good recruiter' label but was less than great as an OC, and Jimbo obviously recruits like a savage. Could it be that outside of a Winston or Dalvin type talent that the crew in Tallahassee is just a bunch of recruiters? Think about it - Al & Dorito even came close to beating them and then Dalvin single handedly stole the game.

Agree.
Some fail to realize, although Scott cost us some recruits at the very end, how many recruits who signed would have bailed if we had tanked the final 6 games?
When all was said and done, Scott's overall impact on recruiting was a positive one.

I think it's easy to be a great recruiter as a coach of one of the Big 3 Florida schools when the other two schools are down.

Does it really matter? When we win our next championship will you care if we go there with great coaching or great recruiting?

Well said . Imagine recruiting with a 6-7 record. We could have easily lost a bunch of kids who figured UM is done.

I don't know if he has something to prove. He's very good calling plays. Certainly he was at Florida State and when he did it early at Georgia.

I believe that was from an interview from Jeremy Pruitt on his way out the door.

It was Mike Ekeler in an exit interview:

He obviously wants the right people, coaches and players. The staff could have easily extended a couple of late offers to some FIU, Marshall, NC State, etc. type kids at the last hour for depth but didn't. Seems he wants only the best fits and not just bodies as coaches or players.
