This morning defensive coordinator Manny Diaz informed me that he has accepted the head coach position at Temple University," Richt said in a statement. "Throughout the process, Manny had been very transparent about the opportunity with both myself and Blake James."

“We have launched a national search for a new defensive coordinator and we have already received great interest from around the country," Richt said. "

We have a chance to really upgrade our recruiting, Diaz even with his faults was a good coach but his success on the field STILL didn’t translate results in recruiting which is pretty mind boggling if you ask me. With that being said we need to hire a coach who is elite in both categories

This will be one of the two or three most coveted assistant jobs out there. A ton of quality coaches are going to want it and I have ZERO doubt we’ll have the money to get who we want.

Imo he has to be a top recruiter with a proven track record on top of being a great defensive mind.

The biggest kick in the nuts to me would be the combination of:

1) No changes on offense (stubborn AF)
2) Hiring a DC that runs a base 3-4 (SFL recruiting base doesn't fit it - we saw it under Golden/No'D
3) Recruiting class finishes outside top 40 nationally (could realistically happen)

If that all happens, we should be ready to storm the Hecht like the townspeople stormed Dr. Frankenstein's castle.

Richt knows that type of defense isn’t what he needs to succeed in Miami. Richt May have got the oc(richt not talking about brown here)/qb hire wrong but he hit on nearly all of the other positions. He is after all the coach who hired manny Diaz and Kuligowski to begin with.

Would literally fix a lot of Miami problems. Give him a co DC Title and a big bump in pay and the responsibility of calling the defense. Then hire an additional co DC my pick would be Michael barrow at lb. instant coaching credibility and are both phenomenal recruiters.

Where is Barrow right now? He was fired by the Seahawks last Jan right?
