Richt is the best possible hire

No, I'm not really a Butch fan (Herman guy here.) I just have seen what Richt can do even with vaunted $EC talent and resources and it's underwhelming. I think we'd be disappointed.

I like him but I'm hesitant. I know his offensive pedigree but not much else about him is known

Exactly right. Richt is a "good" coach. Not a "very good" or "difference maker" coach. You can win a lot of games, but no championships (the real ones)....

But he runs a nice program, is a good coach and a Miami alumnus....

I'll take Butch or someone else if we can't get him back to the Gables....

No. Worked at UGA for two years (06-07) and have followed them a bit since then - Richt is a good coach but will NEVER win a championship anywhere. He'll get you to the conference title game once every 3-4 years, win between 8-10 games annually - basically he'll do just enough to keep his job, but never get over the proverbial hump. There are better options IMO.

Richt strikes me as a Lloyd Carr, Mack Brown type coach... good for 9 to 10 wins and a major bowl most years, but needs the stars to align to win a national championship. Lost to Bama in the 2012 SEC champ game (Bama wins NC), LSU in 2011 (Bama beats LSU for NC). 2005 lost in the sugar bowl to WVU (2 undefeateds in NC game).

I think UGA fans will miss him when he's gone.

Richt would be a great coach. You already know he can handle 4 star athletes and get the most out of them. You already know he can get over the 10 win hump again and again. You already know he can recruit (not to mention, he would bring a few GA recruits with him). You already know he can assemble a great staff and that he understands big time college football. He's already a top 10 coach in college football.

Miami with a top 10 coach would absolutely rip the ACC a new one. He would easily be the best coach in the conference....combined with our talent...
