Richt has been masterful putting together this staff

manny diaz was a good hire . his defenses at miss state have been very good. he isn't working with alot of 5 star talent either. its most like 3 star talent. texas was a 1 yr thing. he 1st year there there d was excellent.

there were some issues with mac browns recruits late in his tenure. weather it was they felt entitled or what texas was never the same after colt mcoy graduated. thats not on diaz

diaz is a well respected dc in coaching circles and by most experts. with good reason also. good hire. the whiners are those that wanted aranda and feel miami settled when i feel diaz was his top choice from day 1.

Dude.. You can't be serious..

Yea he is and most people who know the game also agree! Some of our fans just love to complain!

I think he was referring to the butchering of the word "whether".

Hilarious how some fans just automatically categorize Diaz as a bad hire because he's not Aranda and because he's related to the Mayor that assisted with the demise of the OB...really? But then everybody in the media and anybody familiar with Diaz is saying its a great hire. Too funny...

The complicated part of his Defense is mainly on the Safeties. Jenkins and Johnson are perfect because of their range. Carter will have to gain more agility or get use to being strictly a box Safety. I would've loved to seen Howard in this D.
The only blemish on Diaz's record is the year in Texas. Nobody was going to turn around that defense. His attacking style was too complicated for them. Great hire and a top 10 DC IMO. I have watched his defenses since his MTSU days, that's a great hire.

It is that "to complicated" part that worries me. Complication shaves speed. Speed was always our edge. Love the attacking part. Well, at least Mark has shown willingness to fire coaches. Just hope Mark realizes he is back in Miami and will not get 5 years to win, no less 15.

Not sure why the Coley comparison unless it's because they both have Hispanic backgrounds and hail from Miami.

Their resumes and level of success could not be more different.

He wasn't hired at Texas to turn around the defense. The Texas defense was ranked #6 the year before he got there. By his second year they were a dumpster fire. I honestly don't see how anyone can look at what he did at Texas and not be concerned.

He hasn't been there for three or four years and the defense hasn't improved.

LOL you can tell the Botch slurpers from the UM fans pretty easily in this thread. How anyone can look at the track record on the ENTIRE STAFF and not be thrilled is beyond me . Diaz for example had a bad blip at UT but everyone has those in there careers . **** Vangoider at ND has had down years but overall he is an amazing coach just for one example . At Miss St Diaz attacked , attacked and attacked . THAT IS WHAT WE NEED. I would of been fine with this Wisky guy as well but we got a good one . And we got the best D LINE coach in all the game as well.

Because we watched Texas at the end of Mac's reign and afterwards.

if by "masterful", you mean scrambling for a back up after your top dog takes the SEC money, then sure, it was "masterful"

Fair, but this is a pretty good backup plan. Al would have brought in Akron's linebacker coach of he had ever had to make a change and his first option didn't work out.

People on this site are weird I personally love the hire, helluva lot better then what we previously had!! Stats are good considering the conference where he coached, give me that type of defense any day in the ACC. NEVER KNOW we might be smiling next year if LSU gamble blows up in there face...

People are neglecting to see the positive. We wanted an aggressive 4-3 attacking coach and we got one

He will be paired with a better S&c then at la tech and miss state. He will have south Florida talent, the best D line coach in the country, and hopefully Raymond (one of the best dB coaches). Guy will be in good position to be successful

read stateoftheu.com story. it states that he was forced to abandon his zone principals at texas. to appease the db coach who wanted texas seen as db u and forced to play man. when that happened they gave up big plays when he was playing his zone blitz concepts they were ranked 11th.

at miss state the year before he got there both times there d was even worse then it was under him. had mack brown left him alone to run his d texas might not of fallen on such hard times.

Diaz should definitely help with recruiting even if he's just a passable DC. After all, he's coming home and knows the area.
