Cam Newton won both the Heisman and NC trophies, which had to sting Richt especially recruiting him as a TE. When Deshaun Watson recently did it, as in hoisting the NC trophy. I think Richt had already made his mind up who he favored at the QB position for 2017, even if this kid's still in high school during Spring practice QB competition.

He missed out on the two best QB recruits Georgia have produced to date, and one can argue it possibly helped get him fired at UGA, at least in the case of Watson. Simply put, it's not surprising that Perry displays similar skillsets to them both as far as running an RPO style offense.

here's an interesting article on Deshaun Watson's recruiting:

Perry and Watson's high school films compares similarly...

Funny thing, wasn't Richt like the first guy to train up a black super athletic qb in ward? Those types were unheard of when ward was doing his thing. Interesting he went away from it. Also, he was at the confederate Georgia!!! Let's see what he puts out going forward.

He was not the first, but CMR was there early. USC had Randall Cunningham in the early 80s and Syracuse had Don McPherson and Marvin Graves in the mid 80s and early 90s.

Cunningham went to UNLV

My bad. His father played for USC.

LoL, it was his older brother not his father.

All the visits to the local parks every week will pay off down the road. South Florida is relatively isolated from Florida and Florida State. Their coaches have to fly in to town, and there's no way they can have the contact with the kids that Miami's coaches have. I think it'd be good not just to visit the kids at the parks, but have them come to campus to watch practice, and get to look around.

Another L for the kid.

Richt can care less if the QB is black, white, or Donald Trump orange. Sitkowski is Richt's only QB target for #storm18 and the last I checked, Sit looks more like a product of the Brady bunch, not the Wayans brothers! He just want the QB to be mobile!

I agree and I think Richt understands the importance of indoctrinating the kids to be Canes fans. His past choices at qb can be debated, but the ones he did bring in were highly rated. What I like about Nkosi Perry is his poise. He's not in a hurry, surveys the defense and makes the right read. The game doesn't seem to be complicated to him and that's the biggest hurdle for qb's.

West Virginia had Major Harris at the end of the 80s and ND had Tony Rice at the same time.

Notre Dame ran a lot of option with Rice though. A lot of teams had black QBs. Nebraska had Steve Taylor and Frazier and Gill, Oklahoma had Charles Thompson and Hollaway. Colorado had Hagan and Kordell.

I was at UGA when Ward was there.. he didn't play all that much QB and when he did, he wasn't that good. I think a better comparison to Richt's current Hines Ward is Deejay Dallas

Yeah, but Charlie Ward at FSU was coached by Richt.

Perry has an arm like a railgun!!! The ball is ******* propelled out of there when he really wants to sling it.

Also has amazing touch when needed. What do scouts say that he doesn't do well? (only thing I could find was some critics of his mechanics)

First time I've actually watched the whole highlight vid.

While Brad Scott & Richt were the OCs at FSU during the Ward years, it was Rich Rod that had the most influence on how they used Ward.

RR used to work Bowdens camps, was OC under Tommy at Tulane & Clemson, coached Shaun King & Woodrow Dantzler.

RR took the utilization of athletic QBs to another level.
