Richt and 4th down

What do you think Golden, Shannon or Coker would do? For that matter, what would Butch have done against Saban?

X-Box Coley would have rolled Kaaya out to the left, then had him throw the ball back across the field to a triple covered S. Coley 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage. There's a good chance it would have been a lateral and Bama recognizes it while our players pout about the incompletion. That pretty much sums up the last several years.

Shannon would have waited until we got a delay of game penalty to call a timeout to think about what to run. By the time he figured it out we get a second delay of game penalty, post timeout. This forces him to call his last timeout of the half with 12 minutes left in the first quarter.

Coker would have clapped, and punted.

Well? Does Shannon punt or what? The anticipation is killing me!

He's still thinking about it to this day.

To me this is more of a damned if you do, damned if you don't type of situation. There will always be those calling it a dumb move if you go for it and don't get it, just like some will say it's pussification if you just punt it. To me situations like this isn't what makes a great coach. There are great coaches on both sides.

Golden was aggressive on 4th down for the last year or 2 of his tenure (the only good thing he did as Miami coach) so I assume he would have gone for it. Shannon likely would have punted since he was a defensive minded coach who wanted to win every game 7-3 and hard to say if Coker or Davis would have gone for it. In the extreme off chance he went for it Shannon would have ordered a really long bomb to be thrown 40 yards downfield even though we only needed to gain a foot. If Coker went for it his play call would have been a clap and he would have kept clapping and congratulating the team for the good effort even if they failed to convert. Too young to remember Davis very well so can't say what funny thing he'd do if he went for it. Although Coker Shannon Davis Richt and about 75% of coaches probably punt there it's still a God awful move.
