Really enjoying our squad this year and looking forward to what we do the rest of the way. Should be a tough out in the ACC and NCAA tourney.
With what we could have coming back next year I think we should have a solid base. Will need to make some moves in the portal and continue to add to Gaskin in the high school recruiting.
I think with how deep this years draft is I think Henderson comes back. I like having him Tru and Dante Allen as our 1-3. Dante and True are relentless on the defensive side and can be a strong backcourt. I believe that if Marcus Allen makes a full recovery (that is obviously more important than basketball and we are all pulling for him) him and Dovrat gives us depth in the backcourt off the bench.
The guy I am excited about is Maddox. He is the son of a coach and has a very high basketball IQ. He is super athletic and shot (granted its highlights) looks like he has potential there. I wish coach Jai would talk about his development and how he is recovering from injury.
We will clearly need some more front court help with losing both Udeh and Reneau. This will not be an easy task. We have very good proof of concept that Jai and his staff can coach up players so we should have some guys wanting to join us.
As I have said in other posts I think that Malovec is a real big question mark to me. Can he get better and overtime become a player for our team? I’m not sure. I would love him to get more accustomed to the physicality of the US game. What gives me reservations is that a shooter usually doesn’t struggle (like he has this year) and miraculously find it. His unwillingness to put the ball on the floor and get to the hoop is shocking to me. The fact that he doesn’t make wide open 3’s is beyond alarming.
Gaskin will help but relying on him to be as good as Henderson would be foolish of the staff. Mind you I am not saying he isn’t as good or won’t have the same type of season. I like his game and think he will be very fun to watch. It’s just a lot to put on his shoulders with us losing 3 starters on offense.
I also wish that Altuntas was more than 5 fouls. He isn’t super athletic and brings the ball down too low after grabbing rebounds. He could be a body off the bench but can’t be relied on for much.
Curious what everyone else thinks about our guys returning. I really hope we don’t lose anyone who could return (Henderson to the draft and Tru to another school).
