Not meant to discount the legacy and achievements of those who’ve had their numbers retired because it’s a great honor and they’re all deserving.

I have questions for anyone in the know.

Are there plans to retire more numbers?

If not, I absolutely understand why as we’d run out of numbers to issue because we have a good amount of deserving people based on on the field accomplishments at UM and the NFL. Some also cut checks to the school too.

With all that said would it be deemed disrespectful to “unretire” the numbers currently unavailable and just acknowledge them through the ring of honor?

What is the criteria for jersey retirement? It’s not really debatable that 5, 12, 20, 26, 44, 52, 76, 96 and 98 could or should be retired based on the contributions of those who wore them. My opinion doesn’t count for much, lol… but if Vinny’s number is retired then Jim’s should be too. ****, throw Gino’s number in there too… I’d think he met whatever the criteria is. But if they aren’t retired then why should the others be or stay retired? If the university has decided to stop retiring numbers what’s stopping them from bringing the other numbers back into rotation?

I think we only have 4 retired correct? 10, 14, 42, 89? With 85 scholarships and most schools having well over 100 total players, that practice is antiquated in today's CFB. Our roster is already littered with duplicates just like every other school is now.

I've always been an advocate of unretiring numbers here. Like you mentioned, many others have done great things too and they are likely not able to have their number retired because of the sizes of teams now, so it's best to honor them all in other ways.
