Retire #26?

IMO it was borderline disrespectful that they did it when they did...timing was a bit suspect to me, when the team owner is basically on the brink of being forced to sell the team Ala Donald Sterling. I felt like it was more about them as an organization trying to distract than it was about truly honoring ST26.
Nobody Loved SeanTay like I did...and I always felt that it would have been in his best interest to leave that organization eventually. Reed happened to fall directly into an up and coming Ravens organization...unlike Sean. I even went as far as discussing this very subject with Sean's dad Pete...

I’m in favor of retiring it.

Yes Miami has lots of numbers that could be retired, but Sean is different due to his tragic untimely loss.

You could argue for about a dozen or so #’s being retired, but most of those #’s don’t have the tragedy connected to it that 26 has.

They need to retire it solely on his games against FSU....

Retire, or how about reserve? Like Michigan does for #1, or USC for #55. A special player has to earn the number.

And if you retire #26, retire #98 for Jerome. Another tragic loss.

Just thoughts…

I just don’t want another bum to wear 26! So I’m in favor of reserving it.

the "26" should be bestowed to the upperclassman on defense that has EARNED it for that season and plays with sean taylor's heart and tenacity. i think most kids would step up and try to earn that as a recognition award. you know it would make espn reel somewhere as a feel good thing they could talk about.

There are 100 numbers available w/ 85 student athletes. Maybe 60 will see significant time. Lol

I’ve been saying this for yrs, if u don’t retire the #26, allow it to be earned, no different than the #88 is earned by the best Cowboy WR in the NFL. The duplicate number chit is dumb, as well. Too many #’s out there to have duplicates.

There’s 85 on a sholly but about 120 guys total. There’s got to be some duplicates unfortunately, like when your walk-on 3rd string kicker is wearing #47.

Man, I wanted Sean in that Eagle Green when Big Red was still coaching up in Philly....

@djnellz ...it's true though what I said....Reed fell into an Organization that was only a couple yrs removed from their 1st SB Win...and no signs of not being a MAJOR player for yrs to come.....Washington was Ho Hum...and certainly not on the upward and beyond trajectory of the Ravens....

I believed he would've loved it in Philly, I think Washington picked before us anyway. But still, he would've been a beast in Jim Johnson's scheme and playing next to Brian Dawkins and for a coach and organization (at that time) who cared.

I would love for it to be an incentive. For any safety that balls out gets the PRIVILEGE to wear that her so. It shouldn’t just be handed out to whoever wants it. Create a competition and the best players gets to wear that legendary number. I was confused as to why he didn’t stick with that number in the pros. I always just assumed some veteran already had that number.

Can you imagine what any NFL teams QB would have dealt with, in regards to SeanTay & Dawkins roaming the Secondary??...Every single NFL WR would've been shook...

If it's not retired I would use it for your star player in the secondary - similar to LSU and 7 (I think its the number 7 for them. Correct me if im wrong)

Would you be in favor of retiring Jerome Brown’s number as well. He was legend at da U and he died early as well.
