Here's the competition:
13 players. Likely to carry 6 or 7 on the roster.
4 rookies. 2 of those 4 were drafted in the 4th round. I know that **** played special teams for The Gator, no idea about Ayomanor.
9 veterans.
Treylon Burks - has been less productive every year in each of his 3 years
Colton Dowell - one career catch
Jha'Quan Jackson (similar body type) - one career catch
Van Jefferson - outside of his one good year in 2021, he is good for about 1.5 catches per game
Mason Kinsey (similar body type) - 4 catches in 3 years
Tyler Lockett (similar body type) - solid 10 years in Seattle, can't say anything bad outside of "getting older"
Bryce Oliver - 6 catches in 1 year
James Proche (similar body type) - 16 of his 28 career catches in 5 years came in the 2021 year
Calvin Ridley - solid 6 year career, can't say anything bad
Now, anything can happen with "injuries" or "aging". One would have to assume that Lockett and Ridley have guaranteed spots.
There are 4 guys with similar "small body type" builds to Xavier. The only one he won't beat out (unless age catches up with him) is Tyler Lockett. Two of the smaller guys have 1 and 4 career receptions. The third has 28. And Xavier JUST. MAKES. CATCHES.
Of the taller/heavier 5 veterans, two of them have 1 and 6 career receptions. Two others are declining (Burks and Jefferson). Ridley is the best of the bunch.
So if you say:
1/2: Lockett/Ridley (long-time vets)
3/4: ****/Ayomanor (both 4th round picks)
5/6/7: A fight between Burks/Jefferson/Proche/Restrepo?
Expendable/non-productive: Dowell/Jackson/Kinsey/Oliver/Sheffield (12 career catches COMBINED)
I'd think that Restrepo makes the roster if he beats out Proche (similar body type) and Burks. Neither one has done much in the NFL to-date. This would (essentially) make Restrepo the backup to Tyler Lockett, who seems like a good (and aging) guy to learn under.
