Help me bring back some memories. I remember him wearing #1 and being involved in a lot of plays. He doesn't get talked about a lot and he is definitely worthy a thread

Let’s not forget about dmauri Jones. Great WR and killing it in the art game..still remember that game he had vs Nebraska

In addition to his speed, I remember him being stockier than the average receiver.

Am I thinking of the right one? I’m going strictly off my memory.

Yes, he was stocky, especially for how fast he was. I also watched him run track. Him and Santana were ridiculously fast, but different.

My first ever Canes game was the 1998 season opener against maybe East Tennessee. Then I saw them lose a couple of games, and then it was four years of glory. I started this thread because I couldn't think of his name and have so many memories of him on the field, just can't remember the specifics.

Daryl is a solid dude, his mom taught at my High school, and I remember him signing something for me back when I recognized him after the 2001 season. I still have that autograph, which happened to be on some notebook paper I had handy, framed on my desk. Solid dude, fellow Dallasite, and ironically enough part of the Carter High to Miami connection that has paid dividends over the years.

Super fast guy who was solid (as mentioned before) but that was it. Overshadowed by Wayne and Moss while he was here (not his fault playing with two absolute stars).

Jones played well for us as a PR and WR. Man he almost housed that punt against the Gayturd except the punter tripped him up. Didn’t matter as Dorsey to Najeh happened to give us a 10pt lead in the 2nd half. We all know the rest of the history. If memory serves me, Santana hurt his back that’s why Jones was back there on punts in the 2nd half?

Dude played at Dallas Carter....was a highly rated/recruited player. He came in with Reggie Wayne, Ed Reed, etc.

He took one for the team and redshirted in 1999 I believe. Very solid player.

A GREAT CANE

He was more than just a highly regarded recruit. Phil Steele has him as the overall number 1 WR recruit. And all Steele did/does is make a composite of the recruiting magazines that were available at the time.

It’s kinda crazy to think we landed a recruit like that during the probation era. At least with DJ we were about to come out of it and were showing signs on the field.

Nice thread. He came in that freshman class of 97 with Santana Moss and Reggie Wayne. Who here remembers his punt return TD vs BC in 2000? I'll never forget it. I believe Santana had taken one back earlier then on BC's next possession they punted and Daryl Jones was in for Moss. I'll never forget Todd Blackledge with the call. "Say Goodbye!" "You don't think this team has speed upon speed upon speed!?" It was a pretty long return too. Forget how many yards maybe 78 yds? Anyway good receiver and return man. Very underrated.

Edit: This got me thinking about that 97 class and how many studs were in it. Moss, Wayne, Dan Morgan, Daryl Jones, Markese Fitzgerald, Delvin Brown, and starting to draw a blank. Someone help me out here and no cheating!
