We were all convinced a few years back that CFB was going to turn into this boring, lumbering behemoth of Bamas, Bulldogs and Buckeyes and, whether through NIL or under-the-table payments the wealthiest teams would continue to bully and squeeze out every ounce of competitive juice until the sport became unwatchable.
So much for that. This has been one of the most enjoyable years to watch college ball in a long time, IMO. Sure the big boys are still big, but there seems to be that air once again that on any given Saturday, magic can happen. UM/VT was an instant classic, Wisky is beating up USC (sans TVD of course), Kentucky upset Ole Miss, Minnesota played the other UM close, **** for now at least Miss St. is giving Texas a game.
It certainly helps that the Canes are 5-0, but that 5th win last night reminds us that this is a game of improbability, of chaos, of reckless confidence and soul-crushing self loathing - in short, everything that makes the college experience great.
@DMoney is right - this is the kind of season that makes fans. Enjoy the train wrecks - I'm gonna keep drinking!
