Remember When Al Lost To Cincinnati?

I'm very close to being completely done with this team and I'm a 30+ year fan. I'm holding on for this season to fly the banners and enjoy the LULz of Grohlden suffering, but if we dont get a proven CFB HC, then I'm done for good.

reality is that Grohlden needs to be fired right now. waiting until the end of the season really hurts us in recruiting and finding a replacement

I'm in the same boat, went to my first game back in '79. I can't believe what has become with this team and frankly I just don't care anymore. They have stolen away my passion. My Saturday's used to be locked down during the fall, I didn't dare miss a Miami game, didn't matter who they played. This Saturday I'm heading to Athens to attend UGA v Mizzou which means I'll miss our game and I don't really give a ****.

Wefense, UNITY, Pillars! Im sick of this S#it!!! Get rid of this sumbytch NOW! I'm a total drunk on Saturday's now. It's the only way that my TV can survive the games. I just watch and laugh. Fucc u Al!

I attended the game. There is very little intent of victory or expectation of victory when Michael Wyche is on the field in the first quarter.

I couldn't get over that. He waddled as always. Then he was on the field again for a full possession later in the game.

A guy like that has no business on the traveling squad.

I saw the banner. Cincinnati fans saw the banner. They were shy in the first half. Wouldn't talk to me, like they were scared. It finally changed only when they ran a screen pass on third down. Naturally it failed. Third down screens are actually succeeding in lower percentage this year in college and pro than typical. And that's saying something because the percentage is always miserable.

When I piped up and laughed at their third down screen and said I was glad they bailed us out with such a stupid call, the guy in front of me turned around and barked, "It was only one block away." I told him there's always an excuse for those plays, invariably a rationalization, that fans are somehow fascinated by screen passes but that I worked in a stats office for many years and picked up on quite a few trends, among them that screens passes are awful calls, particularly on third down. Only at that point did the nearby Cincinnati fans perk up and start to chat with me. They were baffled that Al Golden was so despised. I detailed all the reasons, focusing on the soft defense and friendship with D'Onofrio.

We continued to talk throughout the game. I mentioned that two years earlier we were in a similar road Thursday predicament at North Carolina but the Canes pulled it out by wisely relying on basic hard nosed run oriented football in the fourth quarter. I pointed out Dallas Crawford in the secondary and mentioned that he was largely responsible, as running back. But don't worry, I emphasized, there's no threat of that now. We're won't threaten all of your skinny defenders. We're a cupcake shotgun team. We'll fake and finesse and fail.

At the end of the game they understood the animosity toward Golden. Several of them were baffled we didn't kick the field goal to cut the deficit to one score at 34-26. It was as if Golden didn't understand the math. "Now you're done," one Cincinnati fan said. "Otherwise the game was still in play."

We shook hands upon departure, and lots of Bearcat fans similarly greeted me as I walked away from the stadium. Weak. Those road Thursday games should be conference games with guaranteed abuse. Two young Cincinnati fans ran up and slapped me on the back, shouting, "Fire Al Golden!" I directed them to this forum, saying they'll have lots of fun sampling the threads.

I couldn't get over it myself.. I watched that game 5 nights in a row. We made Cincy look like ******* Alabama out there. Our line play was atrocious.

We play down to our competition every **** week.

You were able to dedicate 11-12 hours of your week to watching this one game?? WTF?!

Assuming you're not retired or on welfare, I want your life.

Being a shotgun team has nothing to do with why we can't run the ball. We could be in I, power I, full house , flex bone , etc. Our OL is just awful . That's one of the main reason we're in shotgun so much . It gives BK an extra second or two to pass. I saw Cincy DL smack gall to the ground like a ***** multiple times, and they were drastically smaller.

Shotgun has nothing to do with how good you run the ball, it's an attitude. There's always a bunch of spread teams that are ranked high in rushing .

I remember the CBS boards when a bunch of us had to deal with an annoying Cardinals troll - Cowtown Cane. Cribs will know what I'm talking about. Sad that he was so right about Golden.

I'm interested in what exactly this Cards troll had to say about Golden. I know that it's nothing we don't already know. It's morbid curiously I suppose.

- Has never beat a team with a winning record
- Never won the MAC and won't ever come close to winning the ACC
- Has never beat a team that finished in the top 25.
- Overrated recruiter

Other things as well, but he was far more accurate and right. He was still a **** though.
