Refs were bad

HAHAHAHAHAH.

Never even noticed that was there.

Yep, dead last in opponent penalty yards per game. 16.7. Incredible.
It's a little strange that USF was assessed 7 penalties against Boise State and 9 penalties against UF, but only 2 against us.

Notre Dame had 5 penalties against us and also 5 against Texas A&M. However, those 5 penalties against us went for a total of 15 yards.

Bethune Cookman was assessed 8 penalties against FIU and 7 against South Carolina State, but only 2 against us for 20 yards.

Make it make sense.

Is this true? Where do you have the data on that? That would be hilarious.
We're dead last in Opponent Penalty Yards and it's somehow worse than it seems.

16.7 Opponent Penalty Yards / G

* We've had significant 4th qtr / garbage time opponent penalties
* We'd have to see >3x as many flags thrown to surpoass the median team at 50 OPY/G.

* Our opponents have yet to be called for a 2nd Quarter Penalty.
* Our opponents are average just under 2 Penalty Yards per 1st Half, can be extended to the first 40 minutes!
* Both 3rd Quarter penalties are within 5 minutes of the end of the frame

On the play w too many men On field. It was 4th and 14. After penalty, it was 3rd and 9. How did they get an extra down?
It was 3rd and 14 after they lost 4 yards. They went fast and caught us substituting but the pass was incomplete. It was showing 4th down because it wasn't called on the field and they had to review and add it which means it goes back to 3rd to replay the down.

When they were backed up against the goal line, one of the most egregious holding calls was missed against Bain that would’ve been a safety and ended all momentum. Followed by about 10 other holding calls on that drive for a touchdown.

At what point does a governing body step in about officiating in college football? It’s just a bunch of random dudes out there who like and dislike teams like you and me. They have other jobs. This isn’t their livelihood. It’s a side hustle. We need professionals calling games with real accountability.

I've been saying for years the NCAA needs to have sole discretion and control of officiating. We don't need different officials from different conferences officiating in different ways. The NBA has control of their refs, the MLB actually has a farm system for their umpires, etc. etc.

Just make them NCAA umpires/referees. With consistent training.

How are one of the dirtiest…

We are one of the most giving teams in the country…we give away so many good plays with stupid penalties the other team should be saying thank you after each game.

Dirtiest???? Nah. Dumbest maybe? Yea I’ll agree with that.

Completely Agree.
As i said in my post, we give away an average of 3 free first downs a game (using penalty yard difference).
Yesterday was a 50 yard difference in penalties.

Mediocre offenses can’t survive that number given however many yards penalized on that side.
Very good defenses can’t survive the obligatory personal foul at critical times, especially when you have to hold opponents to less than 20 points.

The refs have been criminally bad in every CANES game this season. While I blame all of our losses and bout outings, there is no denying what is going on. It needs to be investigated. What ****es me off the most is Mario hardly ever says a word to the refs. He lets them straight run over our team. Start calling these ******* out. Who cares about fines. This is disgusting.

Someone posted the stats in another thread. Miami's opponents have had 25 penalties called in them all year. The next lowest team in the ACC is 37. That's 50% higher. Honestly those stats are stunning. 25 is a crazy low number and a huge outlier from the rest of the teams in the league.

Look, there is no giant grand conspiracy. The league and all the refs haven't gotten together and decided not to penalize miami. That's not it. But there is a reason why this is happening. Is it that our coach doesn't work the refs enough? Does it have something to do with our style of play? Is there subconscious bias with the refs? I don't know but something is up.

The goal should have been to go up by 14pts at the end of the first quarter every game.. and then keep your foot on the gas.... then refs won't matter as much. Instead we run 6 to 7 minute series to get to the 30 yd line and back peddle.
For heaven's sake, play to finish a drive in under 4 mins
