Refs suck

I love how the announcers were telling us what a hole VT was in from the Phillips sack while you could hear the announcers calling first down on a penalty. Of course you didn't see that because the production crew was terrible.

One of the worst broadcasts I’ve seen in a while. Terrible all around, announcers, camera angles, etc.

In terms of penalties, does anyone know if they keep stats for specific kinds of penalties by team? We have to lead the country in personal fouls...

I don't know if it's that specific, but penalties are included in the play by play data at collegefootballdata.com

I spoke on this in my recap, the ACC refs are highly litigious & are being advised to be trigger happy with Miami.

We definitely don't do ourselves any favors with how undisciplined we are.

But these ACC officiating crews are horrible. Especially the crew that called the NC St game, I hope to dear God we don't see them on the road @ Wake or @ home vs UNC, that crew will absolutely ***** us if they get the chance to again.
How about that hedley shove? You’d think he did a WWE takedown

What’s crazy is how bad it was and it was ESPN. Not ACCN or ESPN 2 or U. Straight up ESPN. I swear. And that pope touchdown I watched from my end zone seats wtf

The two pass interference calls....one on Ivey and one on Bolden were two of the worst this season. The guy Ivey was on fell down on his own. Bolden beat the guy to the spot. Forget the ball being tipped by Phillips

I don’t know if this is a Blake James conversation but someone needs to bring cut ups to the ACC brass and get some type of accountability on these refs

We’ve had a premier pass rush for the last 5 years and probably only seen 5 holding penalties from other teams O line in that span...

Last week v. NCST, I can’t help but wonder if one of our kids did the “suck it” celebration (after the NCST field goal) if 20 yellow handkerchiefs would have been on the field. I so wanted Ivey to do it after the INT just to prove ACC bias.

What's new? I think they've called 1 or 2 holdings on our DL all year, and a few years back we went almost the whole season without one being called despite us having a solid bevvy of pass rushers. I used to think it was just my bias or imagination but I've spoken to others about it and it's not just us that notice it. I know a Gator fan who watches a lot of our games and he laughs at how often we get held with no calls.
Yep, remember that bowl game against Wisconsin when Richt went ballistic.

It has been brought up repeatedly over the past 15 years. We used to send weekly game tapes. The ACC doesn't care. And after the Duke game a few years ago they don't even maintain the pretext of impartiality.

It is what it is.

edit: I should add, they fired the crew after that game. You think any of the current crews are going to call it straight if they want to keep their jobs?

A related officiating note - anyone notice that there are less and less measurements during the course of a game? If a team comes within a 1/2 yard of the marker the officials signals 1st down and move the sticks. Replay booth took away one of those types from us today. Seems the officials have been told to keep the game moving.
Part of the reason this happens is because the mechanics are to start a drive on a yard line when the drive starts between the 20s (or maybe it's the 10s). This way if you have a close call you don't have to measure because you know 10 yards is that next line. Example - team starts drive on their own 23. On 3rd down the runner is down with the football barely touching the 33 yard line. On the TV looks like the should measure but there is no reason because the officials should know they started on the 23. Helps speed up the game by reducing unnecessary measurements.

To your point how it seemed like there were alot of those yesterday. There were a ton of very bad spots where ppl were a yard short and they "rounded up"

I would also add I watch a fair amount of fooball from different leagues. The Big 10 has the best officiating followed closely by the Big 12 (although they did lose some guys this year) and SEC. The PAC10 and ACC are severely lagging when it comes to quality officiating. I'm not sure who is in charge of officiating for the ACC but in the Big10 it's an ex NFL guy, SEC used to have the current NCAA head of officiating and rules guy, Big12 changed a few years back from Walt Anderson (NFL Referee).....point is the other leagues get top notch guys that lead officiating

They pulled out a new trick to quietly steal yards from us today: There was a series in the second half where Chaney was running the ball and they blew the play dead almost right after he made the contact with the LB to negate the yards he fought for; lost him 2 yards on one carry where he fell forward and at least another 1 on a separate carry. The very next series, VT's RB had what looked like all 11 of our defenders surrounding him for the tackle and they let him fight for AT LEAST another 3 seconds before blowing the play dead. I've gotta give them credit, this method of fu*king us was actually creative...
Saw the same and called it out to a buddy. On that play it seemed like our guys were waiting for whistle, possibly to avoid a penalty, but the RB was almost able to sneak free...

Maybe they work for Amazon because I would have needed a new TV

They were showing Manny talking to an assistant during the Pope TD. I was like WTF are you doing.

It has been happening all season. Either our offense is too fast for them at times or because they have to create some type of jibber jabber or story instead of just the game, they get lost from the action.

I'm sure part of it is because they're watching it at home like us, but the production crew is there.
