Reed and rumph

Dorsey and reed as position coaches are the only ones who have some experience reed not a lot but still some. The rest can stick to analyst or supporting from the sides
You are dumber than a box of rocks if you think I’m advocating hiring any of them.

WQAM just said on the air that Rumph and Simpson were let go as well.

Manny is starting another purge..

Not really. All of the hires on the staff were Richt hires with the exception of two people - Banda and Patke. If those two still have jobs, I have a feeling he might actually let them be co-DCs. That's a bit of a red flag to me, because Manny isn't going to have as much time to help the defense scheme as he did in the past.

This may be true, but he is a guy you have to roll the dice on if he really is willing top do the work. There are so many fringe benefits to having a guy of his stature on staff on a daily basis. I have no doubt he can teach guys the technique that he mastered, ****, I shouldn't even need to explain why having him here would be so valuable. I swear we have a case of battered wife syndrome around here when it comes to hiring Canes. We have never really hired the right ones though. You can not compare pedestrian Canes like Shannon, Rumph and/or Beard to the legend, Ed Reed.
I would tend to agree with you however, Ed’s natural leader qualities, knowledge of the game, and motivational skills seem like it would translate to teaching. Not saying he would be the GOAT or even great but it seems plausible enough to take the chance.

Given the limited experience of most of Mark’s staff and the fact that we now have a HS coach coaching the most important position in a Cane defense, why would we not turn greatest safety ever loose and see what happens? If nothing else, maybe Ed could teach them it is not against the rules to block a frigging punt once I a while.

Ed Reed would be the only big name on the defensive staff it desparately needs. He could recruit in Louisiana as well as FL for DBs. Who wouldn’t want to be coached by the goat. This is a no brainer.

Most great players suck at coaching reasons being their great because of God given abilities. Just because Ed was a legendary player that dont translate into a great teacher. Ed was instinctive u cant teach that. And that's what made him great.
Yes Ed was instinctive, unusually gifted in that department. He was also extremely talented as a returner and had great hands for a DB. There is no question about that. But he has skills that translate nicely to coaching. For one, his preparation. When guys like Peyton Manning and Tom Brady both fear and admire you, it's because you can do something very few defenders can, prepare your *** off. Ed Reeds instincts mixed with his tenacious preparation made for a guy that is renowned as the greatest ball hawk we've ever seen. The other thing, his reputation. Kids remeber a few guys no matter. Ray Lewis and Ed Reed are at the top of that mountain alongside Sean Taylor. You don't think every safety coming up doesn't want to be Ed Reed? The next best thing is being coached by him. One last reason, and the one that I like the most, his leadership. Leadership at the Miami Hurricanes in our history takes a special kind of dog because you're surrounded by other dogs. Whether it's Al Blades, Michael Irvin, Ray Lewis, or Ed Reed, you have you be something unique and special to be the ipso facto leader. His athleticism and instinct are were as good as anyone before him, but let's not act like he wouldn't be a great teacher and motivator as well as recruiter for the Miami Hurricanes. ****, only Sean Taylor would be a greater hire as a former player because every single 5* recruit would be down here if that was the case.
