Defensive End

Current situation: The Hurricanes have commits from a true defensive ends in Chad Thomas and commits from versatile prospects in Trent Harris, Anthony Moten and Demetrius Jackson who could line up at defensive end among other positions. The Hurricanes are finished pursuing players at this position.
Top targets: None
On the radar: None
Miami chances: NA
2015 names to know: Tampa Freedom defensive end Scott Patchan is starting to gain some big time offers. Miami was one of the first schools to offer and the Hurricanes have family ties. CeCe Jefferson will be one of the biggest recruits in the state next year due to his ability to rush the passer. Miami has offered, but Florida has the early lead right now. Deerfield Beach prospect Jason Stowbridge is also receiving heavy Miami attention.

Defensive Tackle

Current situation: Miami has commitments from JUCO prospects Michael Wyche and Calvin Heurtelou as well as St. Thomas Aquinas’ Anthony Moten and New Jersey product Courtel Jenkins. Anthony Moten is a defensive tackle that has very good pass rushing ability. He could also line up at defensive end if Miami wants to go with a 3-4 alignment. Wyche and Heurtelou will add instant depth to a unit that only returns three players from the 2013 squad. Wyche is a big run stopping type of defensive tackle why Heurtelou offers some pass rush ability. Jenkins may be the most underrated player Miami has committed in their class. Miami is looking to land one more prospect.
Top targets: Travonte Valentine decommitted from Miami at the start of January. After taking an official visit to LSU this past weekend, it appears his planned official visit to Miami this weekend is in some doubt. Valentine would help upgrade the defensive tackle talent in a big way, but Miami’s chances have slipped severely over the last week. Georgia commit Lamont Gaillard is taking an official visit to Miami this weekend. Gaillard maintains that he is solid with his pledge to the Bulldogs. The UM coaching staff would have to really impress him in order to get a late flip.
On the radar: None.
Miami chances: Valentine (Fair), Gaillard (Fair)
2015 names to know: Miami has yet to offer any defensive tackles in Florida, but they have sent out some offers to national level prospects like California prospect Rasheem Green and Virginia prospect Tim Settle.

Linebacker

Current situation: Miami has commitments from Juwon Young, Darrion Owens, Mike Smith, Demetrius Jackson, and Terry McCray. Owens and McCray are rangy linebackers while Smith and Jackson excel at attacking the quarterback. Young is a prototypical stout middle linebacker. Miami has a good mix of players committed at linebacker and the staff will have to work hard to keep this group together. McCray is looking to visit Alabama this week. Miami is likely finished with adding any other linebackers before signing day.
Top targets: None.
On the radar: Former UM signee Antonio Kinnard had a successful season at Arizona Western Junior College and is hoping Miami shows interest. At this point, the Hurricanes have not pursued Kinnard much. If UM decided they wanted to recruit Kinnard seriously, they would be in a strong position.
Miami chances: Kinnard (Good)
2015 names to know: Miami already has a commitment at linebacker from Royal Palm Beach’s Charles Perry. Gulliver Prep’s Dominic Sheppard received an offer at a junior day last year. Miami should be in good shape with Sheppard if they continue to show him heavy interest. Hallandale prospect Sh’mar Kilby-Lane is emerging as a big local target for Miami in the 2015 class.

Cornerback

Current situation: The Hurricanes have one commitment from Ryan Mayes at the moment. Mayes is a long corner and is enrolled early at UM. His presence this spring will help boost the depth for the month of practices. Cornerback is a big position of need to fill out in the 2014 class.
Top target: Miami is working hard to flip J.C. Jackson from his commitment to the Gators. Jackson has emerged as Miami’s top target down the final stretch of the recruiting season. The Hurricanes have shown Jackson the most attention of any school pursuing him and have made it clear that their depth could mean immediate playing time for him. Florida State is working hard to get Jackson in on an official visit this weekend. If he does not take the trip, Miami coach Al Golden will do an in home visit with him on Saturday. Jackson’s recruitment will come down to the wire on National Signing Day. Oregon commit Arrion Springs took a visit to Miami this month, but he is solid with his pledge with the Ducks.
On the radar: Miami has shown some interest to Alabama prospect Patrick Porter, who is committed to Washington State. Porter scheduled a UM visit for this weekend in the past, but that trip is now in limbo.
Miami chances: Jackson (Fair), Porter (Fair), Springs (Poor)
2015 names to know: Miramar’s Tyrek Cole committed to Florida State on Thursday, but that won’t stop the UM coaching staff from showing him heavy attention. New Jersey prospect Minkah Fitzpatrick is a player that will be one of the top cornerback prospects in the country. Fitzpatrick has Miami in his top three along with Ohio State and South Carolina. Miami also recently offered American Heritage cornerback Tarvarus McFadden.

Safety

Current situation: Miami added two safety prospects to the class in December in four star New Jersey prospect Kiy Hester and flipped three star Marques Gayot from his Louisville pledge. The Hurricanes could play athlete Trayone Gray at safety or receiver. It is highly unlikely Gray will qualify for Miami. The Hurricanes are likely finished adding any safeties.
Top targets: None.
On the radar: None.
Miami chances: NA
2015 names to know: In South Florida, Miami has already offered Jaquan Johnson and Kendrell McFadden. Miami is in a good position with Johnson and even though McFadden is committed to West Virginia, the Hurricanes will not stop their pursuit

Scott Patchan will be a 5 star by his signing day. His athleticism and pass rush ability are just to good. Plus he is very physical and can easily play right now.
