Record Nine 2014 Canes make NFL 53-man Roster

Q. You put two of your draft picks – Anthony Chickillo and Doran Grant – on waivers but then signed them to the practice squad. Is that an indication both players are a part of the Steelers’ future?

Steelers HC Mike Tomlin: They’re both guys worthy of development, and that’s what that means. We put guys on the practice squad we deem not ready yet, but with upside. Those two quality young men came up short in pursuit of being on the 53-man roster, and so we’ll give them an opportunity to get better on a day-to-day basis. [Freaking Tomlin is doggone gambler, particularly on Chickillo who made the 53-man roster for one day]

The Panthers did sign rookie center Shane McDermott to the practice squad Wednesday, terminating cornerback Carrington Byndom to make room. Brian Folkerts, the backup center the last two seasons, suffered an ankle injury in the preseason and was waived.

"We were looking for centers, and there was an opportunity to grab Shane," Rivera said. "He was with Dallas in the preseason and looked really good. He's a young man we watched coming out of the University of Miami. We're intrigued by him, and with Kalil's situation right now, we wanted to bring a guy in and take a nice, long look at him."

This is has to be an uneasy stat for the coaching staff. You take a program with not a lot going for it and you poor into a group of guys and try to develop them and get them to look past the negativity and loss of Bowl game Opps because of probation. These guys that you invested your life in finally make their dreams reality this week. Sad part is that collectively all involved went 6-7. You can all blame the coaches but the players every week know from game tape that does not lie failed to do their jobs. One guy doing the wrong job, wrong route, wrong gap crashes a season. You can have 4 pro linemen but have 1 guy not do his job on third down and you see the next play be a punt.

So now this staff are at a cross roads. They can show recruits that they can get them to NFL camps. Now they have to show those recruits they can get them bowl wins. This is a very interesting season indeed.

stop sheltering that POS coach. Its all his fault. If he cannot get the evident talent to win then he is not doing his job. Imagin what nick saben would do with that much talent. We had more plyers from last years 6-7 team make it in the NFL then bamas/*OSU/Oregan etc. these fuggin teams were in the playoffs/NCG.

Its all on AG and his POS coaching buddy

You really have to reach to say that something is wrong with the staff if nine explayers made NFL rosters. If anything it's a credit to them for developing them into NFLcaliber players. Not saying they are a high quality staff but this is a plus for them.

yup because AG's job is to develop NFL talent. Its not to win with NFL talent. GTFOH...this is an indictment of his coaching ability not a compliment.

Nobody ever mentions Antonio Crawford when you talk about the "me" guys. I wonder how much trouble he stirred up in the locker room.......
