Recapping the 2018 Baseball Season

People had high expectations because Miami once had a great football program. Same with baseball.

Miami football in 2011-12 was 7-8 years removed from being good and had a terrible roster.

No reasonable person thought that the 2012 team would be anything less than a disaster.

The baseball team doesn't have a terrible roster and was in Omaha less than 2 calendar years ago.

The baseball team had a terrible roster in 2017. Even Mrs. Morris can admit that.

So we did not have a good program in 2017, which was a better team than the 2018 team.

I'm starting to legitimately think you're stupid.

A program and a team aren't the same thing.

A program and a single roster aren't the same thing.

How in the world can you think my statements are contradictory?

Based on what?

Before I embarrass you again, remember how many times you've leaned on the following statistics to establish how good we were in 2015 and 2016.......

2017 vs 2018
Better record: 2017
Tougher schedule: 2017
Better RPI: 2017 (by about 24 spots)

The 2017 team, as bad as it was, missed the postseason because of some conference tournament upsets. The 2018 team was never in the conversation. The two teams really weren't even close.

The 2018 team hit 25 points higher, had a higher OBP, SLG, OPS, ERA, BAA, etc.

Even if you went position by position they, were better.

Thanks, Lance Roffers and the rest of the stats crew, but the point is to win games, and to occasionally win games against good teams. The 2018 team was awful. That's why we finished #63 in your precious RPI.

The 2016 team was mediocre.
"LOOK AT THEIR RPI!!!!!"

The 2018 team (#63) was worse than the 2017 team (#39).
"FORGET RPI, THE 2018 TEAM HAD A HIGHER BATTING AVERAGE!!!!!"

Of course, that's the only thing you'll talk about. Any thoughts on RPI and SOS for those two years?

No, because I don't compare RPI and SOS between teams in completely different seasons to determine who was better.

But SOS was 17th in 2017 and 20th in 2018. Also, the 2017 team was 7-16 vs. RPI top 50 and the 2018 team was 7-15.

So in other words, not statistically relevant enough differences to override the vastly superior offense that 2018 had.

2018 - 4.80 runs per game
2017 - 4.62 runs per game

Vastly superior offense.
