During the Shalala tenure a lot of things changed especially the inner workings of the football program including academic requirements that are pretty much BS - it is about as easy to get into Stanford and Duke.

I have a question for any fans or lurkers that are in the know. Correct me if I am wrong, but a coach can dismiss a player and take away a scholly? Is that correct? For example if Coach Saban had a kicker that couldn't actually kick a football that player would be in breach and grounds for scholarship removal would be forthcoming. I have a suspicion that responsibility of certain aspects of the FB coach were taken and as well taken from the AD under Shalala and that is why these beeches are allowed in. Who is the compliance person that screens who coach can recruit??? That's the joker.

Here's why that's important. If these players can basically never be fired they will always do what they want to do. I really think the problem is at the BoT and AD level. If I were to cross check who was hired during Shalala's tenure and who is here now... those are the people undermining the program. And those fck heads need to brought into the light of day.

I don’t get your Duke/Stanford reference and while I love the U, I would not compare it to those places academically. We’re top 50, they’re top 10.

In regards to the scholarship, NLI’s only last for one year but are usually just renewed because it’s common courtesy and while some players are JAGs, they’re not liabilities to the program.

So while you could theoretically just not give players the scholarship via the NLI the next season, that’s terrible optics and would discourage players from wanting to come, which is why it’s so rare.

Miami is no longer a hard school to get in to. I know parents whose kids could not get in to UF or FSU but got scholarships to Miami. Admissions is more based on race than testing now at UM. Maybe you haven’t been keeping up but our undergrad is ranked with Florida State and our Law School is now a complete joke.

This is 100% wrong. Where are you getting this BS? As a parent involved in this process you couldn't be further from the truth.

Yeah he’s right. If your Hispanic or black um will give you a full ride With housing in the new dorms.
Even if you have a 2.0.
Incredible what bs people put out there. I guess the Asians are all getting in and it has nothing to do with test scores.

UM was a top 40 school not long ago. I don't even know where FSU was

Miami was a top 40 school for a year or two at most. This was only because the shalala admin was gaming the rankings. Her primary focus was raising the us news ranking, and she gamed the system for a short term jump.

It was never going to be sustained. Miami is sunshine U, not some academic powerhouse. This is coming from an alum. The folks here who talk about how Miami is an ivy of the south are delusional.

FWIW, Alabama has had notoriously bad field goal kickers in Saban's tenure. About half of his season's he's had kickers converting less than 70% of their field goals.
