Reason Players May Be Checking Out

It couldn’t be the Temple level non football player we hired.

Must be the secret compliance officer that has been purposely sabotaging us!
same person as the Trump Ukraine phone call whistleblower. Might not even exist. Russian interference.

Robbie's mistake was building the stadium on an ancient Indian tribe's burial ground or however that story goes. Teams are cursed (although the Marlins did win 2 world series). The Dolphins are just a disaster from when they were a proud model franchise.
cursed? Did Robbie even know about the burial site?

2 Reasons Bama/Clemson dominates football:

1) $$$ They pay-off players and their families better

2) The keep academics requirements low so their players don't need to waste energy studying and qualifying for game time...

UM can't do #1 and they won't do #2.... ergo we are gonna suck for ages to come. I don't care what coach they hire-- nothing is going to change the Top 15 pecking order without #1 and #2....

The CFB game is disintegrating.... Some schools try to keep an "academic focus" and others are all about THE MONEY (aka. "winning").... It'll continue to become more apparent with time that we have a "2 Tier" system....

The schools in it for the money VS. the schools trying to keep to the "student athlete" standard

Brother Owl...you need to keep fighting the good fight.

But, this post does not have a single true thing in it.

I've been involved in HS -> College Admissions and I would love to see the application of the kid that didn't get into FSU but got scholarships from Miami. I would wager money - if this is true - it is the only person in the entire school that got into Miami but not FSU.

I can not tell you how easy it is for a student to get into FSU. I've seen students get rejected to FIU (which is actually not an easy school to get into) but get into FSU.

FSU's CARE Program almost assures me that your claim is false, but I am just taking you at face value.
My brother, you’re one of my faves on here, but I have to step up here.

I get it... I’m setting myself up for nasty PM’s and replies, so if I can’t provide facts, it’s pointless.

So here - FSU’s acceptance rate in 2019 was 34%. In 2018 it was 33%. So obviously everyone isn’t getting in.

UM was a top 40 school not long ago. I don't even know where FSU was

Most recent Bar results *** EVERY SCHOOL SAW AN INCREASE IN PASSING RATE EXCEPT THE UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI

I believe FIU Law has dominated the bar pass rate % for a while now. I guess that makes the stain of formerly being headed by a guy complicit in child rape worth it but I guess that depends on your own moral code. Sure as **** beats your tuition money going to Domino's Pizza fueled strident Catholicism and half of your class failing the bar.

The reason why is that everyone applies there.

Been doing very very very well.

FIU is doing a good job. Its not a token commuter school. Connect4Success has been pretty successful giving them better students and being a bit more selective for incoming freshmen. They have put a focus on the big schools (Law and Med) and have had good results. Its not a joke school nor is it easy to get into.

Agreed. It's an excellent value. I know plenty of UM undergrads that ended up doing graduate work of varied sorts there too.

He was from Cornell. Didn’t even know they accepted straight males into Cornell

Big state schools...FIU, UCF, and USF all have done very well with their local CC and have become much better institutions as a result. They'll never be US News Top 100s with that enrollment...but for most kids in Miami-Dade County, FIU provides a solid undergrad option that is mostly free. Their incoming freshman standards are basically 75% Bright Futures standards, so most students are going there on the Bernie Plan.

I'd recommend FIU/UCF for free over whatever Miami is offering (aka not free) for most students in Miami-Dade for a multitude of reasons. Lots of students LOVE UCF (Golden Knight Program helps get good students) if they take a visit. Just different enough from Miami to consider getting away from home.

This might be the future of college education. Requires small private schools to define a role or niche and that might mean trying to become much more selective and elite. That will also make it more difficult for UM to become elite again in men's football. (Notice I said "men's." Who knows what the future will be given what's happening in society.)

Your kid could go absolutely anywhere if he received a Type 1 AFROTC scholly. Those are extremely rare. Congrats. Is he hellbent on being a pilot? The Foote program is pretty **** prestigious.

Yes, he is majoring in aeronautical engineering. I think he wants to get his master's before pilot training. He definitely wants to fly the F-22. He picked Miami over the Air Force Academy.

Miami is no longer a hard school to get in to. I know parents whose kids could not get in to UF or FSU but got scholarships to Miami. Admissions is more based on race than testing now at UM. Maybe you haven’t been keeping up but our undergrad is ranked with Florida State and our Law School is now a complete joke.
If you ask high school kids that are applying to UM. you'd know just how difficult it is to get into Miami,UF & FSU. FSU is the easier of the 3. Academics, non academic activities, volunteer work & testing all come into play,as well as geographic info. I have three children and they have each gone to a different one of those three.

I grew up just a little south of the site Robbie used. It could well have been burial site; I use to hunt dove and quail there as a kid. Fins have fallen from the best to lowest level. Having been in the OB for the opening kickoff of the Fins first season, the demise has been painful. I long ago abandoned them. My Canes are the only sports I pay attention to for years. Needless to say, the last 15 plus years have not been fun. I am blessed to have live large in our glory days and the Fins perfect season.
