Realistic Chances of T-Rob As DC

It would be nice for us to fire D'onofrio and Williams. Hire Muschamp as DC and T-Rob as DB coach. Just dreaming but that would be a perfect scenario.

If you look at many of the great head coaches, they also have great coordinators and position coaches. If we could get the right position coaches under Golden, I think it would make his job much easier and he really could just oversee the program.

We just fielded a top 15 defense. If you're telling me we should hire him b/c donofrio is a cancer and is a sh1tty recruiter, I might buy it. But if you're telling me we should hire him b/c our defense would be better, then it doesn't hold much merit.

This.....

The BEST scenario, IMO, would put T-Rob at co-DC/DB Coach, and bring in Ed Orgeron as co-DC/DL Coach. I could live with having either as the DC outright, but that may be what needs to happen to get them both on board. That would allow us to get rid of NoD, Williams, and Franklin...and get upgrades across the board. The recruiting payoff alone would be worth it, and I think we'd see results on the field too.

It would also open up a spot on the coaching staff that would allow us to, oh, I dunno...maybe hire a QB Coach (a defacto "OC-in-waiting") on? Someone like, say, Kenny Dorsey???

Golden is going to play the "top 15 defense" card extremely hard to protect his boy. To the point where we will vomit in our mouths. If any changes are made, it would be a position coach here or there but still am struggling to see Golden actually fire someone.

Neither guy has ever been a DC. Oregeron had been in coaching forever and has never gotten a chance, there is a reason for that.

Dave Aranda from Wisconsin or bust. He can coach LB's and be the Def Coor.

This would allow Hurley Brown to then be moved to coach DB's, and UM could hire Kevin Patick to coach the dline. This wold give UM three strong recruiters on the defensive side as well three very technically sound coaches. UM could take williams salary to supplement what Donofrio was making an offer Aranda $600k and offer kevin patrick $150k since he is making $80k now at North Texas. Aranda is making $480k now so offering him $600k would be a $120k nominal increase, with $170k being the effective increase ( since FL doesn't have a state income tax were as Wisconsin's tax is 8%). The south florida cost of living increase is offset by the sunshine weather premium, which people pay happily.

Go Canes

I usually don't agree with Paranos often but this would be a perfect fit. Run a 3-4, althought with a much different philosophy. Look no further ten what a bunch of 2 and 3* did to Nebraska, 180 yards of total offense.

I don't think D'O will be gone and don't think Golden would ever give up control but if he did Aranda would be an excellent choice.

So I did my research on Mark Stoops and T-Rob. We all know that Stoops was a great DC, and that he started out as a DB coach for many years before becoming the DC at Arizona, then FSU.

Now, T-Rob has been a DB coach for approximately 6 years, and is obviously looking for a job. Sometimes you have to promote people in order to convince them to come work for you. How would you feel about him becoming the DC and also coaching the DB's, or, how do you feel about him just coaching the DB's, if we can convince him to come for the same position/pay?

PLEASE, no arguing, and personal attacks. Let's just talk some football.

theres no proof he can coach yet. and to be honest he hasn't recruited great this year, he usually dominates recruiting down here. 0.01% chance i'll never rule anything out but it is extremely unlikely

The great CEO would never do that. None of the great CEOs do that.

Trob does not like this staff. In his viewpoint they reported Joker Phillips (his friend) and trob. He also was shunned by miami and iirc gogeta was sayig he was committed to us back in the day but we dropped him

TRob is not coming here. First off, as others have said, the dude has issues with Miami, this has been talked about for a while now. Secondly, Golden has issues with Muschimp and his staff who we went out of our way to dime out to the NCAA.

Muschimp is NEVER going to be hired by Al Golden. NEVER. Muschimp was the #1 **** bag that was negatively recruiting against us as dirty as he could. Its also HIGHLY unlikely UM could afford him. He will get a gig at a big time program as a DC making 800K to 1M.

Its also not clear that we need a new DB coach. Honestly, since we have made the changes, (whoever did it) on defense the last 4-5 games, the DBs suddenly seem to be playing like a whole new crew. Suddenly we have guys blanketing players, having solid coverage, batting passes away, getting picks. Its amazing what playing to the strengths of your personnel will do.

IMO Orgeron is probably the most likely of the "big names" as a DC UM could get. He has a history at UM, although checkered, but its also going to be tough to afford him IMO. They will have to name someone like that Asst. HC also.

IMO Top 15 Defense or not, Donofrio needs to go. Now would be a perfect time too. He may actually be able to "move on" to another gig, without it looking like he was fired.

But it seems obvious to me that Donofrio is not the main reason for the improvement we have seen on defense lately. If he was, we would have seen this a LOT sooner. Someone intervened, and Golden is the most likely answer as to who stepped in/changed things.

James Coley had only been an OC at FIU (where he was ******* terrible), and OC-in-name-only under Jumbo. Yet, the selling point for getting him was recruiting.

The selling points for my scenario are getting two ****-good position coaches that are major upgrades at DB/DL, and getting 2 guys who can recruit the **** out of defensive players nationwide and in S. Florida...AND opening up a spot to create a QB Coach position to get Dorsey. You draw these guys by selling them on the chance to be a DC.

I never said it was possible nor imminent, just saying it would be a nice scenario. Lots of factors working against it and why it won't happen...I'm well aware of that.

Why? I just want to see the pros and cons of why he would or would work out here, and any inside info anyone may have?

He has 6 years experience as an DB coach, in that time he has been in charge of recruiting. So most of time has been calling, visiting, tracking HS kids not game planning Defenses. And you think you he is ready to be a DC at Major D1 program??? SMH

Wasnt it rumor that it was miami that narked out t-rob and caused him to get fired??? I dont exactly remember the story...

I think you're thinking of Aubrey Hill.

Lol.

Aubrey Hill resigned from UF on his accord when the Shapiro BS first came to light.

Ice Harris when he was director of football operations was the one who got the photo of Joker Phillips not T Rob.

Great recruiter, would love to have him.....but seems like a long shot per what everyone is saying here. I had heard No'D was gone weeks ago, and haven't heard that change. If anything I would think the defense playing better is an indictment of what he was doing before the rug got pulled out from under him. I am sure it will be played up that he's still running the show etc to allow him to get another DC gig somewhere else.
