UM did NOT choose a QB strategy to recruit diamonds in the rough.

It’s called not wanting to play for a ****** head corch that wants to run a bro-ball offense that either ruins a QB, or gets him nearly murked.

Wario cannot put a gun to a kid’s head and force him to sign with us. The recruits are allowed to choose the school that they want to play for, and it’s obvious to anyone with critical thinking skills at this point that no top level QB recruit wants to play in this abomination of a system.
No doubt Mario's reputation makes it harder to attract high-ceiling QB recruits. However, in the age of NIL and the transfer portal, I believe if the program is committed to bringing in top QB talent, it can find a way.

There's a case to be made that NIL dollars are better spent elsewhere since QBs often bust. I view that as a risky strategy. Winning against decent teams now requires consistently putting up 30+ points/game, which is hard to do without a top-tier, athletic QB. Those types of recruits are infrequently overlooked, and often not available in the portal.

If Mario's reputation is adding a "QB-recruiting tax", I believe the program has to hold its nose and pay up. With an $80M contract, Mario isn't going anywhere, and shopping for QBs at the flea market puts the whole investment at risk.
