There seems to be two common sentiments on CIS about early draft entrants:

1) McIntosh and Norton are idiots for declaring early / we're screwed
2) We cannot return to the elite since other top teams 3rd year players are not declaring early

However, this is not a Miami team culture/individual issue, it's a financial issue IMO.

So say you're part of that Clemson D-Line. Right now you are projected top two rounds. I would bet dollars to donuts the following is happening:

1) You are getting a strong incentive to stay put by boosters, perhaps up to six figures
2) You are getting a great insurance policy based off draft projection that helps alleviate injury concern
3) You are a king on campus and having fun since you are playing on a ELITE team

Now to Miami D-Line:
1) You get a free rental car and you could blow your draft chances
2) Your projection isn't affording you a silver lining fallback
3) While on the come-up, you live in a city where REAL money talks and you just lost three in a row (and maybe you are still scarred by the Golden Era).

There is a fundamental difference in why getting to that second contract matters more to our guys then guys from Bama and Clemson. All through college other teams players are able to substantially improve their futures while our guys don't have the same benefits and help in "feeding the fam."

Also, while Pete would never burn a source (to confirm this), on the draft I bet he had good insights from Malki Kawa. The podcast lineup should give us an idea into where the information is likely coming from. So while we we're all debating what our players SHOULD do, he was hearing in real time (why we saw some wavering) what they WILL do. Our guys also seem to be turning away from Rosenhaus and towards these newer agents, and since these new guns need to be hustlers to build a client base (and since Drew looked dumb with some of our Shannon guys) they are getting pimped for a dollar and a dream.

So why Jaquan stayed?
