Im a big fan of Vish but I'm not sure he's completely on point here. I still side with MR in pulling and benching Perry at UVA. He was lost and admittedly did not have enough of a grasp of the offense at that point. I think Vish is off on that point.

The lack of diverse and creative thought among the offensive staff is completely on point in my opinion. THAT is where the devil sleeps in this story.

Disagree. The UVA game was on 10/13. GT was on 11/10. That's 4 weeks. Perry has been here since April of 2017. So you're telling me, in 18 months he couldn't learn enough of the offense to beat UVA, but in the past 4 weeks now he's got it? I can't agree with you on that.

Richt panicked. He knew we still had a shot at the Coastal, even after the 2nd pick by Perry in Charlottesville. So he put the kid back into the game that he thought might not lose it for him. Problem is, that kid is AWFUL, wasn't mentally prepared to play as he hadn't taken a snap since the FIU game 3 weeks earlier (nor 1st team reps), and he was terrible for the duration of the game.

Hindsight is 20/20, of course. My father and I speak at halftime of every game, if we're not in attendance. He was screaming that Perry shouldn't have been taken out, and I was siding with Richt at the time in saying there was still so much on the line and Miami SHOULD be able to win as long as the offense didn't gift the game away. And Perry was giving it away. Well, I was wrong, and so was Richt. You picked the kid to start for you, live or die with him. Especially when the alternative is quite possibly the worst QB in all of Power 5 not named Artur Sitkowski.

And he compounded it by starting him again against BC, which was the final straw that broke the camel's back. Duke was just absolute, pure lunacy.

Richt has this thing about listening to his gut. I have seen his gut in action and I would like to start a go fund me page to take his gut and bury it halfway to china to never be seen again. His gut has cost us games against VA, BC, Duke, and Pitt (last year) and it's going to continue to happen because Richt gut is nothing more than a panic button that he reaches for like a security blanket.

SMDH!

His gut led to his firing at UGa...

What is that, poor ole Mark Richt who got fired from Georgia for not winning, has another 4 game win streak? Lol.

waiting on Richt to evolve is a fools errand, the concrete is set and hardened, the guy could not change now if he wanted to, and he does not appear to be a guy that even wants to or would have the first notion of how to change. If you can't look at your own stats and performance and use that as a motivator for yourself then you should not be coaching a competitive sport, or expect to be successful in any walk of life. This is so clear a 5 year old could point out the weaknesses, Richt seems to choose to ignore them and hope they go away. It is sad for him and sad for us.

Disagree with you there. Pulling Perry was the right move, but settle him down and put him back in for the second half. If Rosier had done anything, I could see sticking with the hot hand but he didn't. I don't think there was any reason not to go back to Perry at that point. Not because he had a firm grasp of the offense, but because you want to show him you believe in him, he's got the talent to potentially get it done, and he needs the experience. The way Richt did it made it seem like it was a mistake to put him out there in the first place. Which would be fine if it weren't for the fsu game.

Ready or not, Perry needs to learn. Being thrown into the fire is sometimes the best teachable moments. I don't think big scary UVA rattled him. Perry just got careless. We've seen the throws Perry is capable of making. I think @Roman Marciante said it best, he just needed coach to grab him and calm him down. Jr should be on the sideline for these young QBs during these moments. Coaching him up and telling him what UVA was doing. Thomas the fake *** OC should be sitting with him and breaking it down in real time. These kids come off the field and go and sit by themselves or other teammates. Pathetic coaching. Overall, Rosier should have never seen the field again after FSU.

UVA did a really good job playing the seam route and essentially bracketing it underneath and over top. Perry was really effective on that the previous two weeks and that's understandable for UVA to show concern.Perry just forced it.

The second pick was on the reciever (per richt) Not really much you can do.

Either way it wasn't outside the realm of probability to have a freshman's first road start go a little awry.

Either way, I said it then i'll say it again. Perry gave you the better chance to win this year. He has better tools, skill set and plays like a guy with God given ability.

If it wasn't Perry's ability to pick up first downs on 3rd and longs this week this game would have been worse. The repeat of the SAME play calls on 3rd down was laughable.

The wide open brevin on the one, was not as people have played it out to be. A 3rd and 8 play fake to the pistol kept his back turned the whole play. He made a decision to throw in less than .8 seconds. That's pre snap read not post. He missed the blown coverage but 3rd and 8 play action to a pistol back isn't ideal for field reading purposes.

Lastly (sorry for the long reply) i'll have a chance to talk further with orlovsky on a podcast. I can't wait to bring the info to the board.

Problem with all the QB talk is we don’t have anyone that can teach the QB. Our head coach doesn’t understand modern offense. Our QB coach doesn’t know anything. Bad combo.

I understand the "you hire or fire the head man" thought, but in large organizations that is older thinking. Utilizing that logic, the highest guy who can survive needs to fire all below him/her. Modern management is collaborative. "Strong" suggestions are often made by upper management to improve performance. I truly believe that it is best if change is agreed upon. But, if the lower manager resists he can be told change or leave the choice is yours. Here, I think CMR has done many good things for our program. He has been excellent at fund raising. He made some excellent hires [ie Diaz]. He has landed some top shelf recruits. He has beaten FSU two straight. But, he is not perfect and the "fun" part of his job, running the offense, has been unacceptable. Perhaps as Jimmy Johnson said, he should use his time doing the things he is good at doing and delegate the others. He would have more time to focus on the players, motivating each one to get better. He would have more time to recruit spending time with the right people and growing relationships. He would have meore time to motivate the coaches to get more out of their units. He would have more time being the fact or a winning program instead of looking frustrated that an 18 year old overthrew yet another throw to the TE. I want CMR to succed, but I am not sure he is willing to change and at the end of next year we may be looking for a new HC.

I couldn't care less if Richt doesn't trust the administration. We, the paying fans, don't trust HIM. He makes 4 mil a year to do a job, and he's failing at it. I couldn't care less if he feels threatened by the administration. ****, maybe that's why he's so **** comfortable now. He feels too safe. It's time for him to be uncomfortable.

Richt will be out of here in a few years. Based on past coach hires of Coker, Shannon, Golden and Richt I believe next coach will be a clone of past 4. We will not hire a top echelon coach. The Canes brand has been severely damaged due to the events of the past 16 years. Our image with high school coaches and high school players have reached an all time low. Our recruiting classes will continue to be mediocre and mediocrity will not turn this program around. I have reconciled the belief that we may never be more than a mediocre team and never become elite.

I totally agree here. It's funny when looking back, kids remember the Dynasty in the 90s when Butch rebuilt the brand. Any coach that comes into Miami will have a harder time convincing recruits to come to Miami.

Right now, croots see Bama, Oklahoma, Clemson, Michigan, and Ohio State as top tier programs that have a shot to win a title. And croots want to win now.

No need to apologize man. I can read your stuff for days. You always seem to point out some of the simplest details this coaching staff or any decent staff should be able to identify and adjust to during games or fix as the season progresses. Unbelievable. Congrats on the high profile guest though.

There aren't any that will be looking for jobs. There are really only 3 that stand at the top and none would come to Miami. And why should they? bama, Clemson, and osu have every conceivable thing those guys could want, there's absolutely no reason to go "prove" yourself turning Miami around. Even the proven guys sitting a little below those 3 have no reason to come to Miami. Richt was the closest to "top echelon" we'll ever get.

So whoever we hire will be an unknown to some degree, which means he'll be similar to one of our previous coaches in some way. We've tried several theories- promote from within, up and comer, proven winner.

Bottom line, we're rolling the dice next time just like last time. And all the times before.

Great article but everything in it has been said on this board.
