Periodically, we will provide a scouting report on a Miami prospect. Most of these reports will be a synopsis of the original report in a media outlet. That's for legal reasons because most are behind pay walls. We will always identify our source, in case you have a subscription and would like to read the original piece. The synopis report will also be posted in CaneHunt '14, under that player.

Today's prospect is RB Joseph Yearby.

[ESPN] Joseph Yearby is an elite national running back. He plays with a high motor. Joe is incredibly explosive and elusive. Good things can happen every time he touches the ball. Yearby has elite burst speed through tight spaces, although his top end speed is slightly above average. He’s a patient runner, allowing his blocks to develop. Then he bursts. Joe has excellent vision and elite cutting ability. He rarely gets tackled in one-on-one situations. He just makes tacklers miss. Yearby has a muscular build but probably lacks the size to be an every down back in college. Joe has soft hands, which might make him an ideal and dangerous slot receiver. Yearby is made for the spread offense.

Here is the full eval:

One of the more explosive and elusive backs this class has to offer, Yearby is a big-play waiting to happen every time he touches the ball. Has gifted feet and body control. He's built low to the ground with a compact, muscular build that is tightly-wound and extremely fast-twitched making him very difficult to wrap up cleanly. Explosive back who can turn even the smallest crease of daylight into a big gainer. Doesn't gear down in and out of cuts. Speed is good but has better burst than top-end speed. He goes from 0-to-60 as a good as any but tops out quickly as well. Excels at finding the quick openings and explodes through tight seams. Stop-starts and redirects through in-line traffic with impressive agility and vision. Really sudden, shifty and balanced and extremely hard to line up in the hole. He's very elusive in tight spaces and the open field. Will hit the downhill crease with good burst and is not afraid to lower the shoulder when things close up and initiate contact. He runs with good pad leverage and can withstand contact maintaining his leg drive and forward lean. Bounces and spins off a lot of tackles but he is not a power guy -- he's more of a threat on outside schemes. Shows patience and allows his blocks to develop on the stretch play.

Yearby is a smaller back who can duck and hide behind his blockers then hit the vertical crease. Shows explosive cutting ability, can put his foot in the ground and quickly burst past defenders. Has natural ability to make defenders miss in space, rarely gets tackled in one-on-one situations on the spot and can jump and speed cut at a very high level. Given his size, there's some concern if he can carry the load as an every down college player -- he has split time with Dalvin Cook in high school. He does everything well as an inside runner but lacks the ideal size to continuously pound the football. Will run out of bounds at times instead of lowering the shoulder on boundary runs. Slips tackles more than breaks them. He shows good kickoff return ability. He does not show elite home run speed as a returner but can make something out of nothing. Soft hands as a receiver and his quick transition and elusiveness could easily translate to schemes were he lines up at slot in college.

Yearby is a dynamic offensive threat in a spread system and one of the top big-play backs in this class.
