Unfortunately, there are some on this site that have to hijack every thread with their personal political views. I know I shouldn't feed the trolls, but sometimes I can't help myself. I won't post OT in this thread anymore. My apologies.
Didn't know he was a Cane till I heard a radio interview yesterday.
Says he lacked direction but decided to enroll in 1973 because it was easy to get in. Thought he'd only last a year. Hated math, history, etc. so he signed up for Drama. Stayed four years. Had a drama teacher who helped change his life...a guy called "Buckets" Lowry...Got a Soap role. after graduation...Wonder if anyone remembers that scene at UM...
he was a draft dodger.....plain and simple
Nope, draft ended in 1973:
U.S. military draft ends, Jan. 27, 1973 - POLITICO
That's right. I remember because that's when I came back from Canada.

Well, it was an OT thread to begin with, and all the guy you have an issue posted was that Liotta was a draft-dodger, which apparently
was incorrect due to timeline that was subsequently cited.
Calling someone a draft-dodger, regardless if it was correct or not, is not necessarily partisan.
You chose to make it partisan with Rush Limbaugh/Cheney/Bush stuff.
Just saying.
Draft ended in 1972 as I was same age as Ray and actually had an occasional beer with him at the Rat. He was just an ordinary guy named Ray.Didn't know he was a Cane till I heard a radio interview yesterday.

Thing I most remember about the draft was the draft card. Everybody had the fervent hope they could find a reliable, authentic-looking phoney draft card, so you could get in drinking places. I think the drinking age was still 21 back then, and a friend in Miami sold me a knock off draft card for membership in the "Hawks Club," whatever that was. It looked more or less like a draft card. So, I stupidly put it in one glassine window in my wallet, with my regular draft card with my real age in the next one. I went with a bunch of friends to go to that club on that causeway (don't remember the name) where the white James Brown used to perform. I think his name was Wayne Cochran. The bouncer flipped from the Hawks Club card to the next window and saw my real draft card. I was turned away. My friends were more adept and they got through. They were ****ed when we all had to leave.
I'll never make that mistake again.
Bruce Hornsby also attended UM's music school around that time.
