Ray Lewis " he scares me on game day"

One of my favorite Canes to follow growing up watching Miami play. He was relentless from side to side, and a ferocious hitter. It was like he entered the darkest place possible in his mind whenever he stepped on the field. Just a standup guy as well!

You can play aggressive and tackle hard with the silly targeting calls. It's the mindset of the modern players who have been promised the world, coddled and given luxuries. They don't have that 1-11 aggressive nature that the Canes were known for. IMO we need to get faster and more aggressive at LB. We step too slow at LB, can't get across the line and up field fast enough to stop sweeps (jet) or screens.

Amen. We need more speed everywhere. It was speed that allowed the aggression. Mistakes were taken care or limited of by the reaction of the other ten.

I was the TA for one of his classes my first year in grad school. His papers expressed some . . . . interesting beliefs.

Something about this thread and violent Cane LBs made me want to come in here and post this picture:

This dude was a crazy force to watch in the middle of a defense. I still refuse to believe we lose to Washington in '00 if he's on the team.

When we about lost at Duke some 7/8 years ago, it was clear what we lacked. Speed. Duke was faster than us. That is when that hit me, that and S&C have been missing for 15 years.

IMPACT... was my first thought in seeing this SHOT.

Unless you've ever felt the IMPACT yourself you can never really appreciate a thread like this other than at the stadium when the crowd in unison yells BOOOOOOOM at the sight of it.

I'll be 62 come September and I still remember mine back in high school 1973 Southwest high Miami 48 street hit by a senior (3) year starter 220 pound 6'1" MLB a hit that lives today , I didn't fall but I was clinging grabbing on a fellow teammate near by player as my legs were jelly.

Just sharing friends for those who haven't played but LOVE CANES and FOOTBALL.....:)

Right? Go back to all our old favorite highlights and just enjoy it because you won’t see it anymore. Even clean legal hits are going to be sketchy if they are “too hard”

Yup. Every time I go back and look at our old highlights, I'm thinking, oh yeah, they'd call targeting on that now.

But anyway, Rohan.......there's something undeniable about that Marley blood, isn't there?

Couldn't believe that someone 5'8 200 lbs at linebacker could be so effective. Was awesome to watch.

I felt the same way about Zach Thomas of the Dolphins. How could a guy that small be so good.

Wasn't Ray small when he played at UM. I remember seeing him as a freshman at the spring game at the OB and saying to my brother "that guy is small but amazing"!!

Yeah, was probably 6-0/6-1, 210 as a freshman.

I remember JJ had speed camps, proving you can teach speed. He invited the UW staff to them once. Don James, the HC, was a Miami alum and former star QB here. Came back to bite us later when they became a power. I also remember sand pits. Not sure either exist any more.

Top five favorite canes ever , passionate as **** and was a straight killer on Saturdays.

Pound for pound one of the most violent guys ever at the U.

One of the most overrated players in UM History - played well for his size but watch the tape - there is one, maybe two big hits
  • ton of his tackles around the ankles and the idea that he was a huge hitter is just not the case
  • and yes I watched him live every home game

The facts are he had a future HOF in front of him and a future HOF next to him ..... that creates a ton of opportunities for tackles

Probably doesnt make the top 20 LBs in Miami history

Rohan was a specialist on tripping up runners and holding back on the slobber knocker hit , some DB's go for the big hit and NOT wrap going for ankles maybe with all the new rules might be a good idea.

If he couldn't knock you out he wrapped those ankles might be a good thing to implement more.

Having Rohan on my D raises everyone's game even if it's in a rotation skeem thing , there would definitely be a spot for Rohan in my D game planning.

I went to Palmetto with him. Dude would park his convertible BMW in the lot, top down, and have money and jewelry laying out in the open. Nobody would dare touch anything.
