Rate teams since 2003

This is a depressing thread, dude.

I need to get pumped for Saturday, not think about how much we’ve sucked *** for the last 15 years.

2017 , 2004 , 2005 2009 2016 is the right answer. The 2017 was **** **** good but had so many MAJOR injuries toward the end and just went flat due to not having good depth. But still that season was so much fun as UM really mattered. We haven't mattered since 2004 or so really beyond 2017 . A lot has to do with bad coaches ( though Richt wasn't a bad coach he was **** good but just was past his time near the end) but a lot also had to do with the changing nature of so so many things around the sport of CFB . I just want my Canes to be a regular top 15 team again and occasionally make the playoffs . Even if we never win a title again 5 titles for a lifetime is amazing ( born in 1980 and watched the last 4 titles live or in person) . But I would like to at least enjoy making the playoffs a time or two and then you at least have a chance to win a title.

The 2017 team wasn't great but had Richards, Herndon and Walton not gotten hurt things may have ended better.

I put them first because they won the division, 10 games.

We’ve added an annual game against a black North Florida FCS team ever since the regular season expanded to 12 games. The difference between 9-3 and 10-3 is basically that.

I’m sure that we had injuries at the end of 2017, but the same is true of most teams. The end of the year is when injuries pile up. It’s probably almost unheard of for a team to be playing its 22 regular starters at the end of the season.

People still slurp 2017 to the point of ridiculousness.

Not including the current unfinished season, I’d rate them as

1. 2004
2. 2005
3. 2017
4. 2016
5. 2009
6. 2013
7. 2008
8. 2012
9. 2011
10. 2010
11. 2015
12. 2018
13. 2006
14. 2014
15. 2007

As depressing as it sounds, 2004-2005 is better than any seasons since.

Generally a pile of crud, especially outside the top 5.

#6-14 are all interchangeable. I ranked them pretty randomly. 2007 has clearly been the worst season.
It's really frustrating because 2014 was maybe our most talented team we've had since like 2006, but our record was 6-7 despite being absolutely loaded with NFL talent. Not only one of the most underachieving canes teams, but has to be one of the most underachieving college teams ever considering how much talent was there. Tragic, really.

Utter garbage since about 2004. Just awful coaching. Players who went on to do well in the NFL who had very little worthwhile training by these cheap *** hires.
“Be a cheeseburger”: Dumbest comment I’ve ever heard from a coach. Carl Selmer and some other incompetent bums never came up with a gem like this.
Is Rich Kotite still around? Surprised our ******* administration hasn’t hired him.

And somehow Golden was allowed back after that fiasco.

Yeah, not a good subject.

After a quick look I would easily flip '16 and '17.
Ending the year with a bowl win/5 straight trumps a 10 win season where we lost the last 3.

So let's focus on ending the year the same way we did in '16.

Nah, we haven’t had two weeks as good as VT and ND in 2017 since 2002.

Best teams?

1. 2005: #3 and 8-1 until a let down against GT
2. 2004: 9-3 but should have been better
3. 2009: good team, but too many injuries and ints
4. 2016: won 4 in a row, then 5. Shouls have beaten FSU and been top 5 after. Close loss to UNC and ND. At the end of the year, could have been beaten nearly anyone.
5. 2017: 10-3 was a mirage. ND and VT games were great. ACC champ and bowl were huge duds.

That 2007 team was real bad
