Somewhat bizarrely, I think the chronological order is also the same as the order of how good they were. Richt gets the next to last spot since he brought Diaz to town.

Butch was JJ's recruiting chief when they left for Dallas. Those were his recruits Erickson did so well with. Erickson was a good coach but Butch's talent made him a two time NC coach. Don't get me wrong, Butch no winning an NC weighs heavy against him -- at Miami those titles really really matter.

G IF he held that position for 3 years then I'd agree he had some impact on Erickson winning

Nevertheless, I accept that everyone has their own opinions on who's better

As for me, whenever I make any comparisons......I always go with reality......Who actually did it ...versus who woulda, coulda, shouda have did it.

Reality and actual accomplishments cannot be disputed,.......... what woulda, coulda, shoulda have been.... can be argued ad infinitum...with no provable or fact based outcome.

Butch held that position (JJs Recruiting Wiz) from 84-88 (5yrs)....

Erickson's NC 89 Team was Exclusively JJs kids...
The 91 NC Team was 80% JJs kids...
 
Jimmy is the best coach we've ever had, too bad he had NFL aspirations, we would have run a train on CFB for years with him at the helm

Actually I agree. I am all about results. I do think Butch the best of our all coaches for what we need now(forgetting all their ages). If Coker could go back to back undefeated seasons one and one in NC game then anyone following 4 years of Butch would have excellent shot of winning one, even Butch.
 
Butch was and always will be Loyal too JJ....
Took what he learnt from JJ and Literally took it to another Level (Talentwise) at a time where it was nothing short of Historical (which in the future proved to be just that)
How in the name of God, is your evaluations so Spot on, that you evaluate 17 1st rounders in less than 4yrs, under intense sanctions, with the NCAA trembling for you to slip up in the slightest??....No where in the Modern History of CFB can ANY coach top that....it wasn't done before...it's not being done now...and it will not ever be duplicated....
 
Schnellenberger - 5 years from dropping the program to first NC title
Johnson - taking to the next level
Erickson / Davis - continuity
Richt - appeared to be on the right track but burned out quickly.
Coker - gave him a Ferrari, returned a Yugo
Shannon - wanted to root for him
Golden - fraud
Diaz - worse than a fraud
 
I don’t think Richt was that much better than Shannon and Golden TBH. I definitely don’t think Richt he was better than Coker.

People seem to overrate Richt on this thread because of his joke 10-0 start.

Everyone downgrades Erickson except of course he holds the winning hand with 2 Nattys. Poor guy.

Are you serious? Yes, since EVERY coach has " someone else's players . JJ had Howards, howard had Lou Sabens, Butch had Erickson;s ,etc...

you know, a coach still has to actually manage a staff, prepare, game plan, game coach , etc...

The " he won with someone else's players " argument is one of the stupidest sports arguments ever. Next is " he only won b/c he had great players".

If he sucks bc he won with Jimmys players, why didnt JIMMY win 2 with Jimmys players if its so easy?
