Rank the Miami Job

Ok hear me out. I don’t think LSU is the job it’s made out to be.. because of the following:

-(Possibly unfair) expectations. I view LSU as Texas. It can be a great job, but if you don’t come out swinging (10 or more wins year 1). i feel like you're ****ed. Obviously this can be a good thing. They have 2019 on their minds still. That was a once every 25 year type team

-It's the deep south. If you’re a minority coach, you're going to be behind the 8 ball from the beginning. They will be ruthless. i think of this because of their rumors with Mel Tucker. Obviously this won't happen now though, because of his extension

-SEC West/Bama factor. You’re in the hardest division in football and your rival is Bama. Need I say more?

-Possible title IX case

The thing is though you don’t need a once in 25 years scenario. They have 3 titles in the last 19 years with three different coaches. I agree with a lot of the challenges, but this fan base for whatever reason does not see LSU for what it is. I personally wouldn’t want to be there, but it is the best open job if the combination of resources (including talent and conference prestige) and recent history are your most compelling draws, and you can overlook the negatives to the extent necessary.

LSU's recent success might reorder the top 2, but USC has an easier path to the playoffs and the school is a lot more prestigious.
Definitely agree with you about USC and their path to the CFP. That’s the only reason I ranked USC ahead.

LSU gets the SEC bump. Has 3 national titles in the last 20 seasons. They have 10 double digit wins in the last 20 seasons.

USC 1 title in the last 20 years with 11 double digit wins. But still think USC is a sleeping giant. They will still out talent the Pac-12 by a wide margin with the right coach and if they got their heads out their *** would mop the floor with most of the west coast kids.

LSU still gotta compete with Bama, Auburn, UF, UGA for the top recruits in the SEC.

Plus Los Angeles vs Baton Rouge……man lol

#1 is USC...it's the tradition, SoCal, recruiting advantage over every other West school(yes Oregon that's you), CHEERLEADERS and the **** Trojan Horse

#2 is LSU. The previous three coaches have won the Natty...no other school can claim that. Add recruiting for state of LA and cajun gumbo man!
#3 is Miami. The mystique, allure, 5 Natty's, NFL tradition, recruiting hotbed (albeit with lots of baggage) but anyone with half a brain can and should win.

I’m with you I think the general consensus when ranking jobs is based on financial support, compensation, facilities, geographical recruiting advantages, conference affiliation, recent success, tradition.

While I personally am not crazy about the job.

You can’t really argue that they arent A+ in every one of those categories.

(I don’t think they have that storied of a tradition IMO relative to other CFB powers. But they can buy perception)

I agree with Miami at 3 (assuming a solid AD hire). A big part of that is that we have a QB and a bunch of youngins that are bought in and are playing at top notch level. They all have game day experience and 2-3 years left. Need to fill out the roster with equally hungry and talented kids and this becomes an amazing destination as a HC job.

It all has to do with commitment. If we do the same old same old than put us at the bottom of the list. If we fully commit, like we haven’t in 20 years, then we are 3 with the potential to gradually move up to 1 or 2 as we continue to commit to excellence across all sports but specifically football

where does Miami rank among these openings in terms of being desirable for candidates? throwing in expectations, "easiness", control, recruiting, facilities, administration help, schedule strength, etc..

LSU
USCw
...Florida maybe in a few weeks?
Washington
Virginia Tech
TCU
Washington State
FIU
Akron

I think we rank right below Washington and right above VT. Not being a mope here but Washington just seems like a homerun gig where expectations are relatively low, schedule, stadium, support, etc are all through the roof. I think we're not in the same tier as USCw and LSU until we get an on-campus stadium but that's just my opinion.
VT is a better job. Marginal expectations. TCU is also better in terms of expectations and admin support. Patterson was a top 10 coach on comp making 6m a year. Easily better than Miami.

Do you really think a small 35k seat stadium would make the program more appealing? It will be as empty as HRS when a sub .500 acc team comes to town, and big games, like against ND in 2017, won’t have nearly the same atmosphere.

When a UM game is packed, it not because the students came out.

VT just fired their HC so I think it’s fair to say they do have expectations.

1. LSU
2. USC
3. TCU
4. Miami
5. Washington
6. VA Tech
7. FIU
8. Akron
9. UMass

If Aranda leaves Baylor, I’d rank that job at #3 & move TCU & Miami down.

If the Penn St jobs opens up, I’d rank that at 5 & move Washington down.

If UF opens up, I’d rank that at 6 & move VA Tech down.

If UCLA opens up, I’d rank that at 7 & move the other 3 off the list.

And if Set Littrell gets fired at North Texas I’d rank them at 10.
TCU ahead of Miami?!
Baylor ahead of Miami?!
UF @ #6?!

With the new commitment to invest and new AD, id rank this job behind LSU and USC and tied with Florida. I don't think Florida is that great of a job, imo. High expectations, inferior to Georgia, never get past Saban. The facilities are improved but Miami will catch them in a few years. The only thing that is better is, of course, the on campus stadium. Washington is run by a dumb woman named Jen Cohen, who is the female Blake James and alienated Chris Petersen into retirement. It's not better than Miami. I'd actually rank TCU above them.
