Pete brought up the asst. coaching hires CMR made with Bruce Feldman (who said he liked the hires) last week so my question here is, how do y'all rank our assistant coaches from top to bottom? Please don't turn this into a Rumph bashing thread. I personally have him at the bottom but not because I think he's garbage, only because I think he's the biggest unknown.

1. CMR (QB/OC)
2. Coach Kool (DL)
3. Thomas Brown (RB/Co-OC)
4. Stacy Searles (OL)
5. Ron Dugans (WR/Co-OC)
6. Manny Diaz (LB/DC)
7. Todd Hartley (ST/TE)
8. Panda (S)
9. Jon Richt (QB)
10. Mike Rumph (CB)

No surprise at the top CMR has a history of success as a playcaller and QB developer. Same can be said about Kool (in terms of development) and I think we may seem him be the first coach out to give a shot at DC (wasn't he upset when he didn't become DC after Pinkel left?). Brown, Searles, and Dugans fall in after that but Brown gets the nod due to the amount of success he's had in such a short time. I put Searles above Dugans despite having some questionable units in the past since he's a very reputable coach and has been doing it for a lot longer.

It gets more dicey from 6-10. Everyone here has question marks. Diaz's career got off to a great start but was derailed while at Texas...can he continue to resurrect it in Miami? Hartley and Panda are proving to be top-notch recruiters but can they coach? Both are unproven. Young Richt has little experience in both recruiting and coaching but will mostly be learning from his dad.

Yes...I have Rumph at the bottom but not because I think he needs to be fired already. He, like the others above him, has question marks and has missed on a few recruits. But he deserves a season to see how his unit performs. In my opinion he's got the weakest unit on the team so if he can somehow make them an above average unit then I think it's a win.

How do you have them ranked?

How about we revisit this thread once we have snapped the ball against some opponents.......

Outside of Coach Kool and obviously Richt, the jury is still out on this entire staff. Manny Diaz could be a boom or bust hire. He was one of the hottest coaches in the nation at one point, only to put up numbers at Texas that were worse than Dnofrio. Let that sink in. I'm hoping he is a boom though. I don't care what car Ron Dugans drives, because right now he's missing out on all the top SoFla WRs.

Wait for signing day. Did you see the class of WRs we just brought in? Signing day is all that matters.

Please.

Richt got Richards and Bruce on 3rd base, as they were pretty much setup by Golden. Bruce was committed under Golden and Richards was on the fence of recommitting regardless of Al Goldens status.

Brilliant insight...can't believe I never thought of that... -_-

Unfortunately, that doesn't happen for another month and there isn't much else to talk about until Thursday.

Kool is easily #1 . I'd put Searles #2 , Brown #3 and Richt #4 . #5-9 are interchangeable.

There are sort of 4 tiers to the staff- Kool is clearly #1 , Searles, Brown and CMR are interchangeable at #2 -4, all the others except Jon Richt are interchangeable at #5-9 , and Jon Richt is clearly #10.

While I doubt he'll have much power I still am unhappy about CMR hiring his son who's 3 years older than some of the players to the staff. Especially since Jon Richt was not a former star player himself and I'm not aware of him being a grad assistant anywhere.

Lol. Yup, it's not as if most of the top 10 schools in the country were going hard at those two. You think your anal seepage licking friend Alf Bronze would have kept bruce away from Ohio state and richards from bama?

POWER RANKINGS

CMR
BROWN
KOOL
DIAZ
SEARELS
DUGANS
HARTLEY
RUMP
BANDA
RICHT

I'd agree with the top 5 coaches with Mark Richt and Kulagowski as the top 2. Brown, Dugans and Searels are definitely the next 3 for me, in any order....

The last 5 I just don't know too much about - maybe they'll turn out to be top-notch coaches, but I just don't know much about them at this point....

At any rate, I think M. Richt will give us same great play calling and Kuligowski will have the DL trouncing QBs....

And that'll go a long way for us getting 10 wins or more this season which I think is quite attainable....with a healthy Kaaya....

Jon Richt no coaching experience, but was a above average HS QB and signed a Ss to Clemson before transferring to Mars Hill. Smart kid but did not have physical skills for D1 ball.

This is a great thread. I personally don't have enough insight to rate them but it will be interesting to bump this at years end and see how the two compare.
