In honor of Mr. Brown and Mr. Maryland being inducted into the Ring of Honor this weekend, I was wondering about where each stands as the best DT ever to don the green and orange. I know Sapp has to be in the conversation, as do Kennedy and Wilfork, but I was curious what everyone else thought.

Also, is DT the "best" position Miami has ever had considering the amount of All-Timers that have come through the program? I'm sure S and RB have a legit argument, but **** did we have some talent at the DT over the years. Need to get some of that mojo back.

PLAYER YEARS TEAMS
Brown, Jerome 1987-91 Philadelphia Eagles
Brown, Kareem 2007-08 New England Patriots, New York Jets
Curry, Shane 1991 Indianapolis Colts
Dixon, Antonio 2009 Philadelphia Eagles
Harris, Orien 2006-09 Cleveland Browns, New Orleans Saints, Cincinnati Bengals
Jones, Jimmie 1990-98 Dallas Cowboys, St. Louis Rams, Philadelphia Eagles
Joseph, William 2004-08 New York Giants, Oakland Raiders
Lewis, Damione 2001-10 St. Louis Rams, Carolina Panthers, Houston Texans
Maryland, Russell 1991-2001 Dallas Cowboys, Oakland Raiders, Green Bay Packers
Sapp, Warren 2004-07 Oakland Raiders
Sileo, Dan 1987 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tatarek, Bob 1968-72 Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions
Thomas, Santonio 2005-08 New England Patriots, Cleveland Browns
Trosch, Gene 1967-69 Kansas City Chiefs
Wilfork, Vince 2004-12 New England Patriots

Jerome Brown was a badass **** and Wilfork has been an animal in the nfl, but I've never seen anyone dominate a college game like Warren Sapp. Maryland clearly also in the conversation.

I guess I'd say Warren, then the other 3 tied for 2nd.

Weird that they don't have Kennedy on that list. Inducted into NFL HoF in 2012

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I never got to see him play in person.

The wikipedia list is a lot longer.

The top 5, I have seen play in person:

1. Brown
1. Sapp
3. Maryland
4. Kennedy
5. Wilfork

Tez was better than Maryland and Wilfork, comparable to Jerome.

But it's splitting hairs. These guys were all stud All-Americans. It's been a long drought since.

Jerome would've been in the NFL HOF had his life not been cut short...there's no doubt in my mind. But if we're talking strictly while here on campus, Sapp is the man....annnnnnnd he was thee man in the NFL too. Kennedy is a close 2nd in my opinion.

You know what's sad about this thread, we used to be DT U. Now we can't get a DT to save our lives.

They must have ignored to 70's . Rubin Carter, Don Latimer and Eddie Edwards all had impressive NFL careers. Who knows where they would rank with the greats because unlike Sapp, Brown etc. these three had weak teams around them. Pound for pound I would go with Sapp.

Sapp was drafted in 1995.. so 95-07 Tampa Bay, Oakland Raiders.

Strictly on the field....Warren Sapp! Everyone else is fighting for second.

He was unbelievable against Nebraska. They triple-teamed him, and it wasn't enough.
I swear I remember one play where he had the center, QB, and running back... all three tackled 3 yards in the backfield. "No blocking for you... no option for you... and no ******* yards for you *****!"

Probably Sapp/Brown in a tie. Maryland and Kennedy close behind. As great an NFL player as Wilfork is, he wasn't as dominant at the U, especially early in career. And as stated above, the program wasn't much in the '70s and early 80s - but put out great DTs. Forget the name, but we had a terrific, longtime DL coach.

Warren Sapp was the best. He almost single-handedly won the 1995 Orange Bowl game against Nebraska.

Kennedy doesn't get enough love in this place. I know his body of work was much smaller than the others but that 89 season was as dominant a season a DT has ever had here.

Brown
Maryland
Sapp
Kennedy
