To ease us into next week, here’s some random fun facts after today’s victory over Domers:

1. ND has not won a game against us on our home field since 1977.

2. Since making HRS our home in 2008, we are now 18-0 in home game openers:
2008 v. Charleston Southern (52-7)
2009 v. #14 GT (33-17)

4. Since 1980, we boast an impressive 13-1 record in games played in the month of August. The lone loss happened on August 24, 2019 v. #8 UF (20-24)

5. Since 1980, we are now 130-38 (.774 win%) in games played from August - September to start the season.

6. Speaking of starting the season, Manny Diaz has the worst record as HC to begin the season since 1979:
-Howard Schnellenberger (14-5 or .737 win%)
-Jimmy Johnson (15-3 or .833 win%)
-Dennis Erickson (17-2 or .895 win%)
-Butch Davis (13-9 or .590 win%)
-Larry Coker (18-3 or .857 win%)
-Randy Shannon (11-5 or .688 win%)
-Alfred Golden (15-5 or .750 win%)
-Mark Richt (10-1 or .909 win%)
-Manny Diaz (7-5 or .583 win%)
-Mario Cristobal (12-2 or .857 win%)

7. Mario, as a P4 HC is now 9-12 vs. Top 25 opponents, but ironically is 5-5 against Top 10 opponents.

Mario has always been able to get his teams up for big games. Went to Ohio State and beat them with Oregon.

The criticism is, until proven otherwise, that his teams drop a game or two they shouldn’t. It’s what Clemson used to do for years before they won their first national championship under Dabo.

Funny, as that coincides with the Dolphins August -Sept record I put up recently.

Yet we still have people saying weather is not a factor. Even on a relatively cool night like tonight, the sideline chick was saying ND ‘s OLine was gassed 3rd qtr.

Humidity is a *****. If this had been a normal August 31st with a 4pm thunderstorm, instead of the remnants of a tropical system, the Irish would have been on oxygen in the 3rd.

Actually after 2011, Clemson was a bit of a juggernaut losing to other quality teams:

2012: 11-2 (losses to #4 FSU (12-2) & #13 USCe (11-2))
2013: 11-2 (losses to #5 FSU (14-0) & #10 USCe (11-2))
2014: 10-3 (losses to #12 UGA (10-3), #1 FSU (13-1) & #22 GT (11-3)
2015: 14-1 (loss to #2 Bama (14-1)

I think there has been a misconstruing in correlating Dabo’s 1st yr full year as HC (2009) when they lost to a 2-11 Terps team & assumed his L’s were as such. During his 3rd full season (2011), the worst loss he had were against 8-5 GT & 8-5 NCSt; from that point on, all of Clemson losses were formidable opponents sans 2017 when they tricked off a game v. Syracuse. Even then, they still played in the CFP, losing to Bama.

#2 Clemson lost at home to an unranked Pittsburgh team in 2016, 43-42 on a bomb last second FG. At the end of the season they beat Alabama and won the national title on the last play of the game.

Dabo’s reputation for choking was those losses you pointed out. Clemson couldn’t get over the hump. They were a good team but seemed to lose the games the matter the most. Usually to FSU when Jimbo was there.

It’s only been the post-Lawrence era as they’ve taken a step back and lost a few games to lower or unranked teams.

Here is the thing with this concept, in today’s college game with 12 games and transfers, it is going to be very rare that any team runs the table. Too many variables, especially that we are talking about college kids, there is always a couple of games that teams are not on their “A” game, and most assuredly will lose a game.
