"Raising their Game"

They still drop A LOT of passes. They still can't block AT ALL. They still won't go up and try to catch a 50/50 ball.

Calling them out was just a gimmick to try and wake them up. There obviously was never a plan to bench them. Imagine being behind them on the depth chart.

More proof that they just start players based off seniority. Mannys 5th year here. Still having issues with attitude and effort. Coaches allow it.

Almost any other school would have benched these kids, and more or less forced them out.

This isn't a positive story. It's disgusting.
Manny has coached WRs here for 5 years?

And you know that they were never going to be benched how?

I'M watching the college top 25 on espn. What a joke. College playoffs. I'm not watching

Manny has been on staff here for 5 years. Manny complained about the culture when Richt was HC. Manny brought Jeff Thomas back after he quit.

You know what I meant but you have to be pedantic I guess.

Which is a coach's man job. They have to be able to lead these kids and push the right buttons. Kids want to be led.

You can't just be passive as a coach and act like you're some sort of sterile lab technician where teaching technique is your only job. Your main job with these impressionable young people is teaching preparation, commitment, and approach.
I get it.
Coach 'em up, physically and psychologically.
Maybe I'm out of touch being old school but I have a thing about putting it all on the coaches.

"Wanting it", in the literal sense and figurative sense, starts from within.
I expect a certain level of preparation, commitment, and approach from a 4-star WR right out of HS.

You specifically stated he's been here five years with regards to the WRs not being good. You also said he was never going to bench them. Well he just did it to Ford and Blades. Don't forget Cam was crying on social media about his carries being taken away too. And yes he asked Thomas back. Then he benched him when he didn't do what he was supposed to.

So no, I didn't know what u meant.

Don't you know on CIS when they perform it's the players and when they don't it's the coaches.

There is no giving the bartender, the geriatric D line coach, the new guy or the politician credit for anything.

You can expect that, but it's not realistic. Some guys are still that way, but the vast majority, as a leader, it's your job to push the right buttons to get the most out of them.

Likens is doing exactly that when Dugans and Stumblebum couldn't. That's why Likens is a high level WR coach, and the other 2 are bums. They all know the same techniques. There's no magic technique sauce that only Likens has. What he does have is the ability to reach the guys and maximize their output, which is what makes all the difference in the world.

This goes in all aspects of life and professions: some just connect a little better and it makes all the difference. All the people who keep trying to put failure on the kids are, or would be, horrible coaches/managers/executives, etc. They get the digital, but don’t realize why the analog has a place; that there’s “magic sauce” between the bits of “1” and “zero”.

This is a popular viewpoint, but it’s wrong. In all aspects of life people expect to be guided — even if the guides are wrong.

As a business manager for 30+ years I had a philosophy. Sales people are like race horses. If you have to put a chicken in their stall to make them run fast then you put a chicken in their stall. They're all different but you can help them succeed by recognizing what you need to teach and providing the motivation they need to succeed. That could be dogging them or praise. Each one is a stallion waiting to be led.

This^^^^for those of you who don’t know.

I feel like "culture" is a phrase we use WAY too much around here for a team that has alot of players that have never had a winning season while being at UM. A guy like DWiggins and that entire class that came in with him is in his 3rd year here and he has only seen 7-6 and 6-7 seasons. They dont know about a winning culture because they havent seen it.

You build culture by doing what we are doing now. Winning games and building confidence that you can win any game on any given Saturday..then the culture comes with that. Not the other way around.
Exactly

People who don't lead in real life or don't understand how overwhelmingly important great leadership is will never get just how important leadership is. Leadership is everything when it comes to success or lack of success.

So true, in my business leadership left many years ago so sad.
The only thing that has kept our company together are the warhorse veterans over the last 5 years couple have died and retired we have myself and a couple battle hardened self motivated veterans left .

I got (3) years left and the others (2) years the fall off to youngsters whom live off my and other veterans sales are coming to an end soon.

Know one ( young folks) wants to learn electrical switchgear estimation programs ir value engineering techniques to understand customer and read project drawings ( blue prints) they always send tough jobs to us warhorses.

I’ve offered countless times to train and there to busy texting and Facebook to stop.

Well I told ownership and he’s helpless scared to cause issues or retaliation sickness days or reasons to do nothing.

Soon a NIGHTMARE is coming they ( leadership) has made to roost very soon.

I told a young man at work this , wouldn’t you like to have the confidence in your job that there no electrical question a customer could ask that you couldn’t answer would that make you feel good ?

I told him I can talk to electrical engineers or power company FPL in confidence with no college education would this be nice to learn?

He grabbed cell phone and left.

I tell young people at work NEVER give a customer what they want give them what they need.
They laugh out loud.

I tell them they’re coming to you for help, they don’t know they want you to confirm it’s correct.

So many times customers return material because wrong voltage, not enough circuits or it just shorted out .

You needed 277/480 volts this panel board he gave you is 120/240 .

A true salesmen MUST educate customers even though it expensive or FPL will not connect your service till correct.

Young people here say well he asked for it and I sold it SO .

You let him leave with a BOMB , if it’s to complicated tell them to consult with FPL or an electrical licensed master .

Only sell what customers NEED never what they want .

Countless times I’ve said SIR this is above my expertise I cannot help you sorry and lost a sale.

So see how tough these young Canes players are to listen

We've massively underachieved at WR for ages. It's depressing. It's evals, also, IMO. We've had top recruits who stunk, and some lower recruits who were okay.

In the '80s, we had Eddie Brown, Irvin, Brian Blades, Perriman

In the early '90s, we ran with Thrill Hill, Wes Carroll, Dale Dawkins, Kevin Williams, Lamar Thomas and H. Copeland

In the '01 era, we had Santana Moss, Reggie Wayne, and Andre Johnson

All guy who were legit receivers, many of whom had legit NFL careers (and 1 in Canton with 2 on the way)

Since Dre, it's been complete meh. And it's notable that receiver has become even more important given changes in the game.

This is what made JJ so great, he knew exactly what buttons to push for each player.
