Quick hitters

The offense scored 19 points against a bad UNC defense when the game was still in doubt(if it ever was) and three of the points were set up by an end of the half pick. I get the ball looks pretty and Perry is all new and shiny but if the "offense runs better" which is up for the debate at this point it is because we're finally pounding inferior opponents on the ground.
The offense can't score when they aren't on the field. With 3 defensive scores, that's three fewer drives they had.

It wasn't a terrible decision, but it was into very tight coverage. Had Perry turned his head a little to the right he would have seen Homer completely uncovered in the flats on that play, which would have been the better option.

He threw late across the middle. That is a very dangerous play. And yes I called it a dumb throw because Homer was streaking open. But Perry played a heck of a game for his first start, not taking anything away from him. While watching the game I was thinking that now I don't have to be jealous of other programs QB's. The Langham TD not many college QB's can make that throw. He is going to be fun to watch as he progresses through the season.

Turnovers and defensive scores tend to manipulate the yards and stats in general.

The defensive td’s gave unc extra possessions and took away multiple possessions from our offense. Lots of times when that happens the team that lost ( with the giveaways) will have more yards ,better time of poss and just better offensive numbers.

It was actually impressive Unc only had ten points and the yards they had , with all the extra possessions. Tbh our yards looked pretty good with losing three possessions and not needing to pass

This is hindsight imho.

I don't have any issue with his decision on that play.

Yeah get off Richt back like i said. He'll get it done. If Coker can win a title, so can Richt. It depends on how well we recruit and i like what im seeing, long as they pick up more quality DTs and coach them up

Go look at our yards per play in other games. Scoring drives for Miami aren't long drawn out occasions. We score quick. There was a whole third quarter where three drives ended in two turnovers and a punt. Those drives also contributed to a lack of plays run.
The int was a good throw, the defender got there early. Perry took a sack... **** happens. The offense is fine.

-Bandy on back to plays look like the Miami Honey Badger. He just had more physicality than the guy on the other side..and imposed. This is the reason why im high on our current commit Brownlee out of Carol City. Same type of game.

-Finley and Mike Smith have been surprises all season. Finley has just looked extremely quick and more comfortable. Like I said in the Gameday thread Mike Smith appears to be faster than Quarterman or Pinkney this year. Mike Smith if he continues the year like today is a kid that will be in a nfl camp with a chance to make practice squads. Go make that money Mike.

-Joe Jack showed up was held all night. Garvin and Willis are our best DL. Willis continues to do what he wants to. His gun point im guessing got the old ref in his feelings. He got the points back for us though. Heard a good number of NFL scouts were there. Willis definitely can line up at dt for my dolphins right now.

We average between 65-70 plays a game. We ran 46 - and you think a 30% drop in plays run has nothing to do with the fact that we scored 3 defensive TDs as the aberration but rather a few bad drives?? Gee we never had any bad quarters of 3 and outs with Rosier at QB the last 14 games....

The discussion wasn't about whether the offense was fine. It was about whether the offense is better run now that Perry is the starter. The last 3 games against FBS competition and two things has been consistent no matter the QB. We're running the football and the opposing defenses are awful. 49 points on the road against Toledo. 31 points through 3 quarters against FIU and 26 points against UNC at home. Each game had over 200 yards rushing. Each was against a rush defense hovering around the high 90s or 100s in the national rankings. The offense to this point isn't objectively better because Perry is starting or playing the bulk of the snaps in the case of the FIU game.

People may feel better about what they're watching for well documented reasons. Doesn't mean scoring TDs on 4 consecutive possessions in the second half on the road while the defense was reeling is worse than what has happened in the last two games.

There was an important word in my post "also". It can mean in addition to. No where did I say that three defensive TDs didn't contribute to the lack of plays. Running only nine plays in the third quarter on three possessions didn't help matters either.

At this point all we can do is subject the O to the eye test. Stats aren’t of any value yet, but from what I see the O looks much more efficient. Perry is absolutely making throws rosier never could. We will know for sure soon.

That third qtr resulted from a pic which shouldn’t have been, and a strip sack... which is Perry’s fault. That’s 2 drives lost, not to mention 3 other throughout the game from defensive scores. The O is fine.

Once again, this wasn't a discussion about whether the O is fine.

The offense only ran like 46 plays because of all the defensive TDs. You can't look at offensive production in a vacuum in a game like this. Look at yards per play.

We had quite a few big runs over 20+ yards as well. You have to look at that too.

Watch it again man. Reason why it bounced off his chest is because his arm was being held down so he could not make a play on the ball.

Yep it was PI that obviously wasn't called.

The thing is Rosier doesn't make that INT because he can't make that throw. It was a tight window anyways, but Perry can make that throw.

The question is, what happens if we didn’t score the defense TD’s? It just never appeared to me that we were dominant on offense. That we imposed our will on UNC’s defense. The 3rd qtr was a mess. The offensive performance didn’t quell my concerns on what happens when we play against better defenses in more hostile environments.

There is no doubt there are still things to be worked out. We have a RS Freshman QB that started his first ever game, and an OL that is still a work in progress, and probably a year away of development and a player or two away from being good. But the offense had a solid game against UNC, and given the limited opportunities (46 plays) they did well.

We can agree on that. All I expect is for Richt to make adjustments to his offense based on his personel. Just like UNC did yesterday. They don’t have world beaters at QB’s. They used short throws and motions and mis-direction running plays to get our defenders to move and think. Despite how dominate we were defensively, we got gashed by there offense at times. Richt cannot act like we are Bama and just run zone reads runs up the middle all day. Motions, sweeps, counters, draws, better QB/RB reads on RPO are required to account that we have a more finesse OL and not a smash mouth type. Is that too much to ask?
