There have been a few reports out that our top three candidates to replace Randy were Folden, Edsall, and Marc Trestman- embarrassing.

I didn't watch the process closely but I know there was also multiple reports indicating that Miami was close to signing Jon Gruden and some that reported that we in fact signed Gruden. What ever happened here? Was the BOT actually serious about going after a big fish like Gruden or was it just all smoke and mirrors? And if we did in fact go after Gruden, was anything, after the fact, ever released as to why he turned down the job (money, wasn't impressed by what Miami had to offer, simply didn't wish to coach again, etc.) or are the explanations just pure speculation?

Lastly, in retrospect, the decision to hire Golden was an awful one. But in terms of up-and-coming coaches in the market, not established coaches like Gruden, was he considered top tier or were others more highly touted/sought after (again not knowing what we know now)?

This is why we should cut the bullshi*t and go get Gary Patterson(pay him whatever he wants) or failing that, Butch. We have been losing for too long and can't afford to take anymore chances on up and comers. We need a sure thing.

They outsource it so they can't be blamed:

chuck-neinas

He was the guy who gave you Golden (whose agent failed to do his due dilegence; the "blindsided" by the Shapiro scandal is Golden BS), but the BOT and Hody Doody Eichorst EXTENDED Fataweenie Alfredo Goldenusky.

The gruden thing wasn't true or close to happen.

Golden was highly sought after.

Same thing with edsall, he was considered an up and comer

Tennessee and ucla both wanted golden. He was a up and coming coach. And our fanbase was happy at the time he was hired. He looked the part and said all the right things. We just didnt know that he couldnt coach.

Iirc the only really big names they pursued last hiring process were richt and veneables (Clemson)
