Hey guys gator fan (No jorts here) here new to the site! just came to check in on recruiting news and a different perspective.

Finally we got rid of MuschaRRmp and hired a real coAch.

What did you guys think of Randy as a recruiter? Some cane fans tell me he was unorganized and neglected certain high schools because of certain coaches and played favoritism to others. But other cane fans and arkansas fans tell me he's a monster recruiter and really connects to inner city kids. What's your thoughts?

P.S. Truly feel bad you guys still have golden

My thoughts?
I hope your entire team, including coaches and players, come down with a bad case of eBola.

Check that, my bad, now I'm pulling for eBola to hit your entire campus.

I agree with the ebola ...

Or locusts decending on the UF campus

wasnt a players coach as dc or hc. he hates recruiting. that is why he offered whole hs teams lol

Shannon was able to land some highly ranked national kids like Seabtrel Henderson and Arthur Brown.

Terrible evaluator of talent. Leo Waiters, Glen Cook, KC Rodgers, etc.

Shannon is a shady dude. Doesn't talk to his son. Never married...no family. Amazing he was ever given Miami job.

He could have success against a Golden staff....but he would be totally neutralized by Butch or Chud.

Rub it inasshole!

A tad excessive, no Medley Cane? I think you guys have a lot to be positive about. While GoldRen has struggled, you guys still recruit the **** out of south florida and think Mario Cristobal would be a great choice to replace GoldRen down the road. The future is definitely very bright for UM.

For better or worse, Randy did not like to play games and in the college football recruiting world, there are a lot of games being played. He would stop recruiting a kids when he thought they were being disrespectful which I can appreciate, but 1) everyone has their own definition of disrespectful and 2) you have to be willing to put up with it somewhat in recruiting. Also, for whatever reason, entire schools with good players were not recruited (not sure if he ignored them and/or they ignored him).

When it came to his actual recruiting ability, from what I remember, he seemed to be good at connecting with kids' parents, but not necessarily the kids. He also never seemed to have a plan b kid if the primary option fell through and instead they would end up with a plan c or d kid.

I don't know how he will do when that is his main priority and doesn't have the other things to worry about, but (no offense to you personally) I hope he sucks while he is at UF.

During his tenure, our recruiting got worse as time passed.

'08 was the top ranked class in the country, '11 was comparable to what UF has now.

I definitely would characterize our recruiting in that time as disorganized. It seemed that there was no rhyme or reason to the numbers he would bring in. I think he focused on prospects more than addressing needs.

For example, one thing that always jumped out at me was that in '08 he recruited 8 backers, but only 5 made it in. Then in '09 no backers were brought in.
I assume if you're willing to take 8 commitments at one position its because you need the numbers. If you don't get those numbers you'd at least try to make them up in the next class.

Shannon was another Miami guy, very much like Golden, that got the "awesome recruiter" hype because he brought in one good class. Fact is, if you're at Miami you can sleep walk to a top 15 class every year (this year is a good example).

I totally forgot about this; how he would ignore one position until it was so obviously depleted that the next recruiting cycle that would be his main focus and meanwhile he would ignore another position only to have to overload with them the next cycle b/c there was no depth there. It wasn't like this staff that can't sign a DT for the life of them, just seemed to have no concept of proper roster balancing.

We definitely never had a WR shortage with Randy. Guy recruited 50 a year.

Randy Randy Randy...LOL. In all honesty, we wanted him to succeed as a HC here, but he's just an average coach (coordinator) and an average recruiter. As a HC he was terrible. Disorganized, alienated certain local schools, terrible with fundraising, alienated former players, etc. Most of his "big time" recruits turned into busts (Forston, Aldarius Johnson, Arthur Brown, Thearon Collier, etc.). His schemes were so vanilla here. As a coordinator, he coached all-world talent into very good defenses. IMO he is solid as a position coach and will help bring in some SFLA recruits to UF just because he is from Miami and a big name. He is not a dynamic personality and is not very good at relating to people (we called him radio while he was here).

Sentreal Henderson was a total USC commit until he backed out after they got hit with sanctions or something. Miami was his 2nd choice.
