Obviously, this the first year of this early signing period so we don’t know for sure how exactly it’s gonna go. But, do we expect we’ll just be signing in our already committed players? Or do we anticipate we might have some surprise early signings potentially to sneak in as EEs or for other reasons (last minute decisions, etc.). If so, who are the guys most likely to fall in that category at this point?

If a player has been offered and has verbally committed to the university, that team expects him to sign. Coaches have put in months, if not years, of work toward their current verbal commitments. They do not want to spend another second ensuring those players sign. In fact, that has long been one of their biggest annoyances with the recruiting process.

To put it another way, a lot of schools think upward of 80 percent of their recruiting classes will sign in December, with only a few players waiting until February.

The December early signing period is now the big trip to the grocery store, while February’s traditional National Signing Day is going to become the quick stop for a gallon of milk.

We should get everyone committed to sign whether or not they plan to enroll early. That is everyone's strategy. It helps that we have 21 Verbals already... schools with staff turnover will have a harder time than usual to catch up.

Could there be a surprise from one or more of our uncommitted targets?

That would be nice. I wouldn't be surprised if someone unexpected jumps on the train while they can.

It's a 3 day signing period, and I've seen reports that as many as 17 of our 21 may be signing early. If all 17 sign by day 1 or 2, I could see a scenario where a few guys decide to get in while there's still openings.

Nice to be in the catbird seat for once!
