Hey guys, I admit, I am not the greatest mind when it comes to college football, so I have a question.

In the South Carolina/Clemson game, Clemson is up 31-3 with a minute left in the 3rd quarter (obviously about to be the 4th quarter). Clemson is already in the ACCCG and in the Final 4 if they win that game (which they will be heavy, heavy favorites to do so).

In this game, Dabo still has Lawrence in the game and he's actually dropping back to pass and also running the ball on designed run plays. Is this smart? Shouldn't Lawrence be on the bench? Or at least, just be handing the ball off? Why risk injury here? What's the purpose?

I admittedly never played at the collegiate level, but I did play at a nationally-ranked high school (Jess Simpson's former coaching job) and I have found that coaches are notoriously stingy about putting in backups even when they have a monstrous lead. I think it's a mix of feeling like it's possible that the opposing team could suddenly muster 4 TDs in the 4th quarter with wanting the starters to continue to get reps/practice, working on 2min drill, etc. Our coaching staff never put in backups until the last 4-5min of the 4th, even when we were up by 30+.
 
You want to pad your stats and grow your lead for the rankings obviously. But a deeper look points to the lead they may or may not have over 4th place in the rankings after the ACCCG. If Georgia wins out, they may jump Clemson with LSU not falling further than 3rd. There are weird scenarios abound. But the best way to remove doubt is to do what they have been doing the 2nd half of the season. Destroy the cupcakes. SOS be damned, if they can show that they can take care of business according to expectations, they will get what they deserve.
 
Now the announcers are saying Lawrence should be pulled. Lawrence is running on designed plays lol. That's insane.

When a headcoach already has a program built and won national championships, that's his business. If its a new headcoach trying to build a program up and doesnt work on getting backups in, he probably wont be their long!

If you watch Clemson this year, Lawrence has not been as sharp as he was last season and could use the work. However, given the plays they are running, it's not a good idea to leave him in the game.
 
Clemson needs one more TD so the point spread will be comfortably COVERED. In other words, a lot of those boosters probably bet on their team. hUh.
 
Imo you don’t coach scared. Personally I’d play my started through 3 quarters no matter score..that’s me
