Question for the oldtimers re a former coach

He was slow by standards back then too but what a beast. Ran leaning forward, got his huge forearms under tacklers and popped them up like a upper cut. Only running back I ever saw called form unnescessary roughness against a defender.

I still have a game jersey from him. Before they went to first Super Bowl, use to be able to stand next to him and Kiick at practice at Biscayne College. I use to go to daily Mass with Shula so got some privileges. Being Fin fan back then was great.

My favorite Dolphin from the 70s teams....wore Csonka Jerseys and shirts...Watch some of his runs circa 71-74...Talk about a tough SOB....

Those guys were old school tough. Loved 'em.

AZ I saw a documentary with him in it.. I remembered as a young kid......
I remember thinking,................why did that Coach talk like that?....What was matriculating?....And if I remembered wearing a hat.
I may be wrong, but he also wore a coat, tie, and raincoat in the doc...
Interesting guy, to a young kid.

“Always on the run”, I think. I did legal work for Larry after he came back. Jim worked with public defenders office in Broward. Use to have lunch with him ocasionally. Those guys didn’t make huge money when they played, so I got stuck with most checks. Took both to dinner once, but only once - they put hurt on you.

Interesting guy no doubt, who did not fully understand the meaning of the word “matriculating”.

He use to get turf toe a lot. Once he had huge swelling of blood unde his big toenail. He took his electric drill out and tried to drilled a hole in nail to let it out. Didn’t work but said he saw lights. He never struck me as stupid, he was just that tough.

If you watch his runs, you’ll notice he always ran at defenders beyond the linemen. He didn’t want to give them a side shot. Instead he took them straight on, usually hitting them under the chin with a forearm and them driving his massive thighs into them. After about a dozen carries, nobody wanted have anything to do with him. One Monday night against St Louis Cards, they had two All Pro safeties. After a few hits they were actually running away from him or faking a trip to get to the ground before he got there.

Being a Fin fan back then was almost as good as being a Cane fan in the glory years. But it didn’t last as long and was not as much fun. Then again I was in college when the Fins were great. Ten years later when the Canes woke, I was rich so everything was more fun. Leaving the OB ruined both teams.

Just keep your matriculating to yourself....don't want your mom catching you. She'll take away all your magazines....oh wait, I mean phone.

Yeap. Fake pitch to half back, give ball to Zonk going the other way. If Miami goes back to under center, I think we had a stretch pitch that was standard fare back in the day. It might work perfect with that.
