Baseball is the sport I know the least about. To what do we attribute the turn around?

Not a guru by any means but a few reasons could be: 1) changing the pitching rotation. The frosh have been a shot of life. 2) new comers finally gelling as a team instead of trying to play individually. 3) less difficult ACC schedule compared to the first half.

I don't give JD credit for much but the weekend pitching management has been pretty damned good

Coach finally figured out what any baseball fan could see watching our staff throw one or two times. The freshman are our best and deserved to start from the get go. 93 isn't what it used to be and If its straight its nothing but BP and every mistake is a dinger in waiting.

I have no idea why JD took so long to see it. Ciskar and Derias have the best movement on the team and its very hard for other teams to barrel them up. You pair that with good D. and you have a chance to win almost every night. College baseball is mistake baseball and they've put together a good defensive team (esp up the middle) and the staff has limited the walks in the tight games.

Our offense is still subpar but Cuvet has really turned it on in ACC play. Not having Williams right now sucks and would help this lineup out. We still need one more bat in the lineup. Renzo and Torres are easy outs., But I have to credit the coaching staff were really putting together better ABs even with the guys who typically make outs.

I used to despise the JD hire but I have to give him props. This coaching staff is doing an excellent job and deserves credit. I do wonder if Roberts hadn't got hurt if he would still be rolling him out there to get shelled every other start with his straight as a board stuff but I cant imagine he will ever go back to him now.

Mainly starting the best dudes on the pitching staff.

Also helps that we’re hitting as a team as well.

I consider myself a knowledgeable baseball guy and I’ll give you my take…

1. The pitching and its management have improved. The freshmen have been a breath of fresh air. Playing 7 innings of defense is much easier than playing 9. Moving AOD 2.0 to the closer role shortened the game for us and has helped greatly.

2.Ogden playing with confidence has been a shot in the arm to the team as a whole. He is what Cyr should have always been for us. He is the rare ball player that has talent AND work ethic. Guys like that have to play loose, and I’m wondering if JD saw he was a bit uptight and told him to just go out and play the **** game. Sure looks like it.

3.The teams we are beating aren’t FSU,Wake, or Clemson. These teams are ranked high but have shown to lack base running discipline and all have had defensive blunders. We are playing solid defense and have been pitching better, so our record shows that we have taken advantage of less than perfect play from our opposition. Wake, Clemson, and FSU are still better teams than the ones we’ve been beating IMO.

4.Daniel Cuvet. The kid is the real deal. His plate discipline was really lacking early in the year, and he tightened that up recently. This is the real Danny Dingers. He’s a RBI machine, not the guy we saw struggling at the beginning of the year. I wish we could’ve found a way to keep Yohandy around for another year lol…lineup would be deadly

... and Cuvet flipping a switch in the 2nd half of the season and hitting for power again, Walters to the pen and our Bugs Bunny shortstop leading the team.

I return to find out what went wrong the last week or two? Something change with coaching? Bats go cold?

We just got hot for a couple of weeks it happens but the underlying issues still remain. Sloppy play, bad pitching, dumb managerial decisions.

Hugus got worn out towards end of the year. Too much reliance on Cuvet with 5-9 being pretty much non existent in the last few games…

Bottom line is that we need more talent. Talent> anything else literally on earth when it comes to baseball.

Talent>coaching
talent>effort
talent>attitude

The problem moving forward is what we saw this last off-season. The top talent isn’t coming here to play. We have to have a coach at the helm who can get top talent. We had 2 kids that could play at the top schools. Cuvet and Ogden. That’s it

Not to say we don't need an infusion of talent, we do.
To me fundememls trumps all when it comes to baseball. Coastal Carolina is the perfect example of that. Fundamentals can be coached and practiced

This fan base is not going to be happy with a bunch of try hards who scrap their way through the post season just to lose to a powerhouse. We want to dominate like Vandy, UT, LSU, and UF have been doing lately…
