Quan did it again

JJ is and always has been a stud. He's had the athleticism and instincts. Now he's playing virtually every defensive snap in his second year under Richt/Diaz/Banda, and we're seeing the player many of us expected him to be. Plus, that leadership boy, dayyyuuum.

Love JJ but number 80 says hello.
Jaquan Johnson - 75tcks total, 4INT's, 3TFL's 1sack, 4PD's, 1TD, 1FF & 1FR

RJ has had a great season as well, and is going to be a phenomenal player in the league, I say every week he's literally playing himself into a 1st round draft grade. JJack, Chad, Trent & Kendrick have all had great seasons too.

But, I gotta go with #Quan4 as the Defensive MVP this season.

To be honest, both have valid cases. I think JJ is the overall leader of the defense which usually gives him the nod. RJ is by far the best pro prospect (most dominant) on the D. Hello 1st round.

JJ has become a heck of a playmaker for us. It will be nice to have his senior leadership next year when all of those talented freshmen DBs show up.

I think there were some people and some threads calling out Johnson and him not being very good before or at the beginning of the season.

I will admit that I was concerned about his athleticism. I have always thought he was a tremendous football player. With a ton of reps this year, the game seems to have slowed down for him. That is true for any sport, as long as your decision making is faster than the speed of the game you will succeed. Right now, his decision making is tremendous.

80 for me. Dude completely dominates weekly , multiple times a game he blows up short yardage , just him. Then mix in all the times a game he pushes the ol into the qb's lap. He's one of the main reasons one db's are playing so well. Not taking anything away from them but this dude feasts weekly.

There'll be two huge holes to fill next year , him and Chad . Even Trent. We're losing a lot of playmakers on that dl.

Norton isn't close to ready and needs to stay , but Mac might end up a second rounder , he's gotta go with that. Us fans can be selfish , but the way his stock is climbing he just might need to bounce.

The sooner you can get to that fat second contract.

Oh and I love Jj, been a fan since he was in hs. He's undoubtedly the leader of the D, 80 just dominates drives at a time . Literally.

Its crazy that he can be nominated for National player of the year but not for the Thorpe award, they put out the awards list too soon.

Just read he's the first Hurricane EVER to capture a weekly honor 3 weeks straight. Given all of the legendary players the program has produced, it goes to show what a season this young man is having.

First Hurricane EVER to capture 3 straight ACC weekly honors. We've only been in the ACC since 2004.

Yes, but we were in the big east for 13 years before that. JJ is the first Hurricane to capture any weekly honor 3 straight weeks not just ACC honors.

Last season the DBs were delivering cover sacks to the DL. I think this year the DL is delivering pressure turnovers to the secondary. I love what Quan is doing. But #80, 9, 7, 99 and 33 are the biggest reason we’re 10-0, IMHO.

But this thread is about Johnson, and I’ll be the first to admit he blew my expectations alway. I knew he was a HS legend but thought his measurables would limit him to being very good not great in college. How wrong I was. Kid is a stud pure and simple, and will be the same on Sundays.

Next time one of those big Dlinemen recover a fumble, he needs to take it away and run for a TD. Some NFL team will take him in first round on the chance he turns out to be another Ed Reed.

Didnt know Derwin James was a finalist for the Thorpe. LOL. He should be ashamed to even show his face at that awards banquet. What a sham.

He will always know who the best safety in the ACC was in 2017.

Quan has had 3 game changing turnovers in three games this season. Easy choice.

Both Jaquan and RJ have a lot still to learn. I think they both need to come back next year to continue to work on these things.

I am with you on this. RJ has played himself into the first round, but if he comes back, he can remain a first round pick but pickup a kicker for inflation while his fixed costs at UM remain covered.
