Its a very puzzling Top 5 for QB #2 according to 247 (composite rank is much lower). Wasn't sure how serious he would take the offer so I didn't create a thread until I saw signs he was interested.
It is a bit puzzling. Kinda a revolving musical chairs landscape. I think the biggest worry, if have anyone has one, is that he camped at Ohio State and ND; left both camps without an offer. OSU already had a qb that committed under Chip Kelly for that year though, still committed too. Both them and ND have given out only four qb offers.
Here’s how i see it:
First, a ton of coaching changes and a ton of qbs already committed. Ole Miss & LSU still have quarterback commitments from previous head coaches. IU, Nebraska, A&M and Texas Tech have quarterbacks committed.
Secondly, a lot of the programs are trying to flip quarterbacks rather than focus on finding a new one: Michigan wants
Kamden Lopati who is committed to Illinois.
Peter Bourque Is ranked 6th in the composite & the new Michigan staff basically decided they didn’t want him.
Tennessee is a pretty legit program right now, so that’s a good indicator by itself. Auburn and FSU are down yet they are marquee brands. Kentucky has Oregon’s old OC but it doesn’t appear Oregon was after him. They also have Joe Sloan, who had Peyton Houston committed to LSU. It appears both Oregon is locked on to Will Mencel from Arizona.
Texas is prioritizing Neiman Lawrence who may reclassify. They also have an 27 qb committed already. Oklahoma is after Jamison Roberts &just got a on3 crystal ball for him. Clemson has a qb committed and only has 3 total offers out. USC is opting out of 2027 qb recruiting, for now at least.
Outside of all that, it seems like UGA, Alabama & UF are all pushing for Elijah Haven and Colton Nussmier; LSU is after Nussmier too even with Payton committed.
