2027 QB Board (2027 Edition)

Not on our board however related to qb recruiting at large.

Michigan dropped Peter Bourque to get Kamden Iopati From Illinois. ESPN says Notre Dame and Michigan are the frontrunners. UGA trailing.

Art Sitkowski was Kamden’s primary recruiter for Illinois.

Illinois got Sitkowski and Toolbox Trent on staff there. Need a bowl game them & SMU so they can tie and settle it with King vs Sitkwoski and Ragone vs Trent Harris oklahoma drills.

Toolbox abandoned ship a couple months ago to board Diaz’ Duke blue devil ****

Found this kinda ironic. Adam Schefter last week on the program podcast w/ woj — assuming he was referring to Bryce underwood —

“We talked about the whole industry changing. I remember this one kid, he was thinking of going to Michigan, and I don't ever do this, but sometimes I'm talking to some of these kids, and I speak to them about the idea of going to Michigan, and one of them was like, hey, Mr. Schefter, would you tweet the news if I go to Michigan?
I'm like, yeah. I'm like, okay, for you, I'll make an exception. Two
weeks later, I get this call from this NFL agent who I rarely hear from, and I'm like, well, that's interesting.
Why is this guy calling? I pick up the phone and he goes, hey, I'm just following up. I want to make sure you're going to tweet that announcement on that kid.
I go, yeah, why? He goes, well, that's my kid. In the end, I'm like, you already represent this guy.
He's a junior or a senior in high school or whatever he was. I couldn't believe it. NFL agents now are going into high schools to go represent these kids.
That's crazy to me, but it's a different world. There's more money at the high school level and the
“school level and the college level, and they don't have to rush off to the NFL level, and the players entering the NFL draft are older. And it's changing all the time.
It's always evolving, and maybe more so now than ever before.”

Quarterbacks are a continual exception for the Michigan alum :roll-canes2:

I don’t think he did anything improper btw. Just thought it was funny given the timing.

Izzy can def move….he has a 4.11 shuttle. Not sure what the 40 is. However, he isn’t what i would classify as a dual threat quarterback even with his mobility.

I found it quite funny Will Mencl was listed as a pocket passer and Izzy as a dual threat. Was going to point out the obvious in those classifications; until, i saw wonderful Monds listed as a pocket passer as well haha.

So Rivals ranks the top quarterbacks as will mencl, Jake Nawrot, Izzy top 3. Elijah haven 7th. ESPN and 247 both have haven first. Kavian Bryant is 5th on rivals & 247, 3rd on espn.

Izzy is 2nd on 247, third on on3/rivals, and tenth on espn.

Composite ranking has him third barely ahead of Kavian Bryant who is 4th. Only reason Jake Nawrot, who is 6th on 247, is ahead of them, is because he is unranked on ESPN. So it’s likely that Izzy will move up to #2 on the composite later this year.

None of this makes a difference cuz i think we got the best in the nation; however, just for posterity sake thought I’d share.

ESPN updated their rankings

Izzy up to 92nd (6th outta all QBs) overall. Nawrot’s first ranking is 121st (11th outta all qbs); so Izzy should soon be the #2 qb on the 247 composite and will have a strong chance at being a 5 star quarterback

Top 5 espn qbs in order: Haven, Iopati, Bryant, Jayce Johnson then Peyton Houston.

QB rankings are such a mess. Rivals ranking Elijah as their #7 QB is wild.

Two others really stand out though.

ESPN has Kamden Lopati as its #1 pocket passer and 46th overall player.
247 has him ranked as their #19 QB and way outside their top 247.
Rivals has him as their #10 QB and 115 overall player.

ESPN has Jayce Johnson as its #3 dual threat QB and 80th overall player.
247 has him as the #11 QB and 180 overall.
Rivals has him as #21 QB and 280 overall.

ESPN has both of them ranked ahead of Abrams. They love their elite 11 and neither one is a finalist.

Yeah there is a lot of variation still.

Rivals is way higher on Mencl, Croucher & Nawrot than 247 and ESPN. Lane Kiffin’s original chosen qb, Keegan Croucher who is still an Ole Miss commit.

Elite 11 isn’t finished with their invites, tho. They usually invite 20-22 quarterbacks then rank the top 11 at the end of The Opening/Elite 11 camp. So still more to go.

It can be tricky because guys like Davidson and Nawrot have a lot less film than the others; and quarterback prodigies like Houston are so consistent since such a young age that they can be overlooked as time goes on.

After Lincoln Riley lost out on Peyton Houston, he hasn’t even bothered to offer any other quarterback in the ‘27 class or ‘28 class lol. Ohio State’s quarterback committed when Chip Kelly was the OC and he’s now at Northwestern lol.

Michigan dropped Peter Bourque yet as you alluded to, 2 outta the 3 outlets have him ranked higher than Lopati; although rivals has them 9 & 10 compared to the larger gaps on ESPN/247.

Hard not to speculate on how the all-star games and collegiate choices factor into all of this; still, i think the important point is to get a top 25 qb and then go from there. Obviously the lower the more likely he will be a future star; but you never know. No exact science to this.

Edit: i am very high on Dawson’s eval skills so feel good about the ones we have taken; sans Judd.

It appears Penn State and Auburn are the odd men out in the qb carousel.

PSU recently offered a kid named Will Woods outta Massachusetts. No clue what Auburn is going to do. Given his track record, id say it’s more of an Auburn concern than PSU because Campbell’s whole model is based sorta on the Cignetti way where their recruits outperform their rankings.

Golesh is more of a mystery since he was outside the p4; but he was the OC at Tennessee and UCF. I didn’t know this until now but he was also an assistant at Iowa State for four years.

Recent buzz has Bourque going to Virginia Tech (his coach on the board would know better than I, assuredly), Will Mencl to Oregon, and Wonderful Champ Monds to Notre Dame.
