I don't think the committee fathomed that Bama was going to look as bad as they did today. The move to 9 was to justify dropping them one spot and being in after a close loss. You absolutely cannot drop them only one spot in their current state. I don't think they have a choice. If that game was remotely close, I'd say they're a lock. Throw on top of that the fact that literally every media personality has echoed the same two sentiments: Miami should be in over ND and Alabama should be out altogether. And I think they're stuck.

if I saw this at 4pm instead of 9:35pm I would have said yes

clearly the committee is protecting ND (their playoff odds started -300, now -1200) and they committee will choose bama over us due to title game / us idle

You think Duke gets in if they win? I don’t see it but I’m sure you have good reasons and researched it.
outside of the Miami/ND/Bama competing for 2 spots situation there is only 1 spot open after that given Tulane is already in (so it's just about what seed they get).

That means a UVA win is obviously automatically in. But if DUKE wins it comes down to Duke and JMU for the final spot. The Committee DID put JMU at 25, so you'd think that means they should be the obvious choice given Duke is currently unranked.

HOWEVER JMU has literally not beaten a P4 team. They lost to Louisville. Duke will now have gotten BY FAR their best win of the year if they beat UVA and a top 17 win.... a UVA team that beat louisville. I mean it's probably like 60/40 in JMUs favor over Duke. But it seems pretty obvious that Duke will have better actual wins (literally almost all their wins are better than any JMU win tbh) AND will have a top QB... Its just nobody thinks a 5 loss team should be in period. I dont disagree. But I think it's entirely realistic a Duke team could jump above them with this win.

This Bama team has looked absolutely putrid for 3 weeks in a row. They do not deserve a spot! I don't care if they are the SEC runner up. Last I heard Conference runner ups don't get automatic bids!
The cries from the SEC for bama and all kinds of threats about God knows what - if their conference championship game loser doesn’t get in is going to weigh on this committee that doesn’t want to to put us in to begin with.

Doesn’t the ACC champ have to be ranked to get the auto bid? Duke shouldn’t be ranked

I mean they have to be "ranked" ahead of JMU. Just cause they weren't ranked entering this game doesn't mean they cant be ranked after. JMUs win was against a nobody. As was all their wins.
Duke beating UVA is more important than anything on JMUs schedule, as is beating Clemson. Beat a Cal team that beat Louisville AND Cal...Beat NCst... I mean They shouldhave never been in ACCCG. But the reality is if we were picking Duke vs JMU today most would probably pick Duke to win. And that's just why no G5 deserves an autobid under any scenario

I think they protected them just in case it was a small margin of a loss. But the way they looked there’s no justifying it now.
And specifically, I think they were making sure they wouldn’t be the ones left holding the bag if BYU had won.
