College football is always unpredictable, but this year is an all-timer. Before the year started pretty much every pundit out there had either Penn State, Clemson or Texas winning the natty. LSU wasn’t quite that hyped but was getting a lot of playoff talk. We’re not even out of October and those four teams have 11 conference losses between them, three of them are already out of their conference title race, and two of the coaches have been fired. Just crazy.

Not unheard of that the preseason polls were off but yes those 4 teams are struggling though TX is hanging around.

Definitely an unpredictable year. One thing has not changed, but has gotten even stronger. The SEC bias is amazing this year. Literally over half of the conference ranked each week it seems.

They also had the gater at like 8th or something. I don't even want to remember from last year what they ranked 'can't win an acc game' girls from North Florida.. you know, before they went 2-10

Perfect point for preseason football talk is all bull****.

The Portal has changed everything.

There are no more juggernauts.

Every team is a B+ & anybody can be beat any given Saturday (Thursday/Friday).

QB play overall is also way way down, which means most teams favored to win are pretty much one bad quarter away from an upset on a weekly basis.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. OSU, Bama, and GA will likely have the shortest odds t/w it all come playoff time. They are still juggernauts.

I think we got spoiled with Covid dudes who hung around to 24… but I agree seems a lot of the better playing QBs seem to be underclassmen other than I hate to say it Mendoza

Have the portal and NIL changed the game, yes no doubt. But to me the two biggest issues with a lot of these teams is talent evaluation and player development. They misevaluated their own roster and they misevaluated the talent they brought in from the portal. For instance, Dabo and Brian Kelly thought their players would take another jump in development. That did not happen at all. Some players regressed.

I guess we have different definitions for juggernaut. Bama got dog walked by an awful FSU team. OSU will have 2 tests all season. They beat a mediocre UT team by 7 and play a mediocre Michigan team to end the season. We don’t fully know what they are. UGA struggled for most of the game against the juggernaut Austin Peay. They also could’ve easily lost a couple others. I could see them losing to 2 of UF, UT, and GT.

Meanwhile the same people slobbing those teams completely trash ours. While mostly handling #12 ND, USF, FSU, and UF. The 3 point loss with 5 INT’s to #16 Louisville weighs that much more for us than the blunders by these other teams?

Agreed.

Another reason why, other than a 1st rd bye, winning a conf is as irrelevant as it is in basketball.

Nothing matters except making the tournament and winning games there.

The same thing now applies in football.

I knew Texas was phony from the get-go. Even in the preseason. Arch for the Heisman despite little experience at this level? LOL please. Apparently I was the only one questioning why the kid couldn’t beat out Quinn Ewers for the job last year. Sorry, this ain’t 1995 where you have guys sit behind vets for 3 years until they’re ready. The better players play now. Arch wasn’t better than a future 7th round draft pick last year. There’s nothing convincing me he was Heisman caliber 9 months later.
