Protect College Sports Act [formerly “SCORE Act” thread]

This article with these statements is largely geared towards killing the PCSA by getting the other relevant ACC schools to lobby the House to amend the bill, which likely causes it to die. It spooks “Virginia Tech” or whatever to feel like they might get left behind sooner than they might otherwise have expected.

I disagree. And I think several other schools are thinking about going the same route depending on how this legislation shakes out. If that happens, you may actually see momentum the other way, with some schools leaving the P2.
that would be awesome and make it viable.. but you would need teams to leave the P2..

but if they're getting $100mil a year checks just for being in the P2, why would they leave?

Not that I’m expecting it to happen but as a college football fan it would be hilarious if the outcome of all this were to be the fractionalization of the P2.

The money would need to be better in the long run first and foremost obviously, but there’s always the ancillary reasons (geography/travel, grievances with existing situations etc)

secondary to financial concerns of course, my question when conference expansion took off has always been “how long is ‘Big Program Brand X’ going to be happy losing 4 or more games every year”

SEC will look a whole lot better, institutional profile-wise, when UNC, UVA, Duke and Georgia Tech come aboard.

The B1G geography problem will only get worse as it pertains to an outlier location like Miami
This is the first time someone at UM has spoken publicly about this situation without total ambiguity.

I’m glad he is putting this out there.

I know it’s a wet dream but could you imagine going independent and striking a deal with Amazon to stream the games.

Ah yes that single unified, undivided entity: “College sports”

“Our goal is to make sure that all of the [House] members understand the importance of this bill—and of this matter,” Fulton said, who added he thought the bill would provide a “framework” for the future of college sports.

Fulton has a background in both politics and college sports. He currently serves as SVP of government public strategy firm Mercury Public Affairs’ California office in Sacramento, and previously founded Game Day Media, which helps schools with both revenue-sharing and NIL (name, image, and likeness) deals.
Guy founded a company that would be impossible to exist five years ago too.

The College Sports United PAC plans to specifically target House members who have come out against the legislation publicly. (A Super PAC can raise and spend unlimited funds for political advertising.) Through advertising, direct voter contact, and other means, the organization intends to convince lawmakers to reverse course and support the bill.

“Our goal is to ensure that the constituents in their districts understand the ramifications of their bad stances,” Fulton said. “We are going to go to the constituents directly to apply pressure to ensure that the voters know exactly why it is important that this bill passes the House.

Seems like this guy is also tryna get publicity from g6 schools to sustain himself

Fulton described individuals who have encouraged the formation of the PAC as “smaller Division I institutions’ boosters and donors,” adding: “Essentially, all the donors that we’re talking to in these smaller schools have been very, very vocal [about] having their seat for the university at the table.” He declined to name specific donors, though their names and contributions will become public once donation records have been filed with the FEC.

The PAC has not yet reported any donations, largely because it was only launched a month ago. However, it has received a “good amount” of pledges, and expects to collect its first funds by the end of this week, Fulton said.

While the group is the first Super PAC focused on college sports, it’s hardly the only financial levers being pulled to lobby for or against the Protect College Sports Act.

SO, we talking about this news in here which was about a stupid bill or in MEGA Expansion thread??

You can absolutely make more money independent than in a conference if you have the brand. The President wouldnt make that comment if he didnt mean it. Ofc its not the preference, but its not a bad fall back either. The biggest problem w going independe is theres a duopoly forming w the SEC and BIG 10, w smoke they are about to announce a scheduling agreement to game the new playoff system. We would get locked out of a meaningful schedule and basically still be in the ACC.

Notre Dame doesn’t make more money. They’re behind the big 10 and the SEC even with their Independent deal plus their ACC money so you’re not necessarily correct here.
