Protect College Sports Act [formerly “SCORE Act” thread]

Yeah, the "independent if need be" is notice sent to all interested parties that Miami will not remain in the ACC under any circumstances
It'd be good if the best teams in the Big XII and ACC joined together to form a third 'power conference'.

I just think the SEC and BIG 10 are incredibly bloated right now - and they probably don't want to dilute the money even further if they can help it. It looks like they're finagling the sport into accepting them as the dominant conferences without letting anyone else in as it is.

This is honestly the best play. The Big 12 schools have shown they are not afraid to spend dat sh*t and are about that smoke w the SEC and BIG 10. The top schools from both conferences -- from a competitive standpoint at least-- represent a huge problem for those conferences. They may not have the branding power, but then again, Miami didnt either until we started whooping *** on the field.

The more and more this goes on and you see the board for what it is the more I think starting a brand new conference is the right way to navigate this. You need 10 teams. That's it. Take FSU, Miami, Clemson, and VT from the ACC and go get 6 more big name brand teams from other conferences to secede.

A 10 team model can be incredibly efficient if they're all major brands and you're not weighed down by the smaller teams. That's the problem the mega conferences have. They have baggage they can't get rid of.

I mean...

Miami
FSU
Clemson
VT
Florida
Texas A&M
Texas Tech

Even the ACC would be "fine" if FSU, Clemson and Miami just maintained their peaks over the last 25 years all at the same time and we got perennial top 25 performance from a few of the other programs like: VT, UNC, Lou, Pitt, GT, WF, Duke, etc.

The ACC can be just as good, top to bottom, as the SEC and B1G. Problem is leadership and investment.

Miami also wasn’t competing against a 24/7 propaganda cycle telling the world that it’s those two conferences and then everyone else.

We have to get into the P2. A conglomerate of Big 12 and ACC teams will absolutely still be looked at as lesser than. I’m so tired of everyone talking themselves into scenarios where we’re STILL fighting with one hand tied behind our back.

I don't see how. We're not going to get our own network like ND. We're not going to be part of the SEC/B10 TV mega deals. With conference games going to 9, I imagine we're going to struggle to get interesting games on our schedule as long as we're independent. Who in the SEC or B10 will want to schedule us?

Independence is in no way a long-term solution, not for Miami, not for Notre Dame, not for anybody.

The SEC and B1G at 24 or 25 schools could easily go to a 10-game conference schedule with an additional SEC vs. B1G challenge series to drive even more media rights revenue. Networks and streamers don't want to play big bucks for Miami vs Central Michigan or Notre Dame vs Kent State.

The only lucrative move is to join the B10 or SEC.

It's also the most secure move.

We're locked into a terrible media contract. Renegotiate that and you're onto something, otherwise we'll just fall further and further behind the P2.

UNC UVA Duke and GT don't turn the SEC into the research grant money printing factory that the B1G is.
I have been curious about this, because it has been mentioned here before, and I’m not informed at all about it.

UM already receives high research funding. UM is the #39 funded institution nationally from the NIH (https://brimr.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/SchoolOfMedicine_2025.xlsx), cites $389m federal and $127m non-federal awards for a total of $526m in FY25 (https://www.research.miami.edu/about/research-impact/index.html), and claims a $772m total FY25 award amount per this page (not sure where the extra $250m is coming from; https://www.research.miami.edu/).

What research grant money does the Big Ten specifically have access to that we do not already have by being in the ACC? Is there a dollar amount? Is it the label of being in the Big Ten attractive to grant distributors? The only substantive things I saw publicly online about the Big Ten research alliance were about shared library and network resources, which seem like relatively small potatoes compared to our annual research spend.

Thanks for your insight!

What about the BIG **** Conference, with us, FSU, VT, Texas Tech, BYU et al that streams exclusively on Amazon Prime and everyone gets $80m a year revenue?

I watched Amazon Prime go to a technical difficulties screen during an nba postseason game with 10 seconds left in a one point game.

**** Amazon.

And to get ahead of it, no, Bezos is not going to help us out because his kid or whatever goes to Miami.
